The last time I went to the dentist was 9 months ago. I had one cavity he took care of it we were good. I had surgery 5 months ago and today I went to a brand new dentist (I just moved to the area). He told me I had some decalcification (expected) but that I had 8 cavities. 3 big ones and 5 small ones. I am definitely going to get a second opinion because 8 cavities in 9 months seems absurd and I haven't had any pain whatsoever. That is why I was shocked, but I was wondering if its normal to have teeth issues after this surgery??

Also was anything different?? The dentist wants me to find a physician to clear me for anesthesia before he treats me and he doesn't know what kind of dosage to give me since our stomachs is so much smaller. So if you did go to the dentist after surgery was anything done differently?? Anything I need to keep an eye out for??

Thank you

I'd definitely get a 2nd opinion. The dosage of anesthesia isn't calculated or effected by the size of your stomach, it's calculated by your height and weight. And why would you need to be cleared for anesthesia anyway, don't they use novacane to do fillings like most dentists? I'm so confused...

I'd recommend a 2nd opinion as well. I just went for my 6 month check up last week, and had 0 cavities.

To remove my wisdom they would need to put me under. I forgot to mention I got one wisdom that needs to be removed because its impacted. Again not causing pain but he said it needs to be gone. Okay thank you. I will definitely get a second opnion. I didn't know if this surgery affected our teeth health or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
