You'll do better next time! I went out to eat the other day and started feeling a weird pain in my chest. Apparently I was sipping my Water through a straw for at least 15 minutes before I realized it. Oops. ;)

Some people here still use straws and they have no problems with them. I can't seem to do the same, though.

No problems here with straws. Everybody reacts differently to them. If they are not giving you problems with gas or pain then you should be ok.

I have been using a straw lately bc I can get more liquids in quicker. But if you used a straw and are feeling pain, then it's best to not use them. ;)

Straws from fast food restaurante seem like theyre twice the size of a straw you purchase in quantities of 100 from the grocery store. I love using the small ones and if you werent bothered then dont worry!

Oh man!! Me too

Not only that, Mine was with a bit of orange juice! Yipes. I only drank a few sips any ways!

It was Jamba juice, just having those few little sips made me feel normal again. It didn't bother me at all. But I sure won't do it again, until my Doctor clears me for straws and citrus. It was mainly carrot juice. Ha, but man was it good

Im like you, today I'm one week post op!!

I don't have a problem with straws and was never told not to use them either.

*typed as I sip my starbucks... Through a straw*

I *think* the main reason they say no straws is because typically we use straws when drinking sodas and milkshakes and alcohol and.. and... you get the point. Sure there's a chance that it could cause you to take in extra air, but the amount would be so miniscule that it likely wouldn't bother you too terribly much. I think it's more just the fact that straws are associated with stuff on the no no list.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
