Hi guys, I have been stalking vsg websites n blogs for months. I am not the type of person to you you tube, but I did like this site for the info that was out there.

I started my journey last year after my last diet attempt, Weight watchers seemed to work well for others but not me. I have tried my share of cabbage Soup, low Carb, adipex, Chinese herbal tea..did it all..I got tired of the yoyo bandwagon n moved forward with my decision..it wasn't easy..I've opted not to tell many people cause frankly I don't care to here negativity or er horror stories..7 months later I got approved for my surgery 5/10/12 and its been a long time coming ..this site has been great at being the motivation I need to continue forward..I'm ready!

Congratulations on your decision! I didn't tell anyone at first, but then slowly I told one, then another and I was surprised how accepting most were - even my in laws (who are in their 60s and I assumed they would be against it), they were very supportive. But my decision was made much like yours. Good luck to you in your WLS journey! Oh and 'come out, come out where ever you are!' (don't be a stranger ok?)

Yaaay for you! I had similar feelings, I have done all the fad diets and lost weight, only to regain it and this last time add on 30 more pounds(sigh, nice) it is a tough choice to make.

I had my sister( also a nurse) really drill me.

My Mom told her, I wasn't even gonna tell her, she's in a different state! But I did it for me, no one can tell me otherwise. It took me 10 months to get here, I was sleeved last Tuesday the 24 th!! Congrats to you and welcome to VST!!

lailabrownskinned,

I am three weeks post-op and I have not told ANYONE but my husband and my SON. I have been hiding out some from girlfriends and even lied saying I hurt my back and that is why I have not been able to ride horses with them (we ride together a lot on weekends. I had a get together with them a week and half after my surgery for a potluck picnic b-day party and I had to again lie saying I just had a huge lunch with my sister-in-law. This coming weekend my husband has business only 45 minutes away from my best friend, but I am not going because I cannot eat half way normal yet and will not be able to get away with that with her. I do not like lieing but I look at it this way...this was a huge PERSONAL decision and I did not want the judgement from my friends who ALL are very fit women for their ages from 46-65 and cannot relate to my obesity problem because they have never been more than twenty pounds overweight. Some would judge and some would be supportive...both to my face and behind my back. And even those friends who have had cosmetic surgery I am not sure how supportive they would be. I look at it this way...I am an open book often with friends about my very personal life, but this is one thing I hold close to me and do not want anyone thinking I took the "easy way out" and judging my decision. I don't want to have anyone's negativity towards my personal joy in the journey of reclaiming my body and mind. Maybe when I reach my goal I will discuss with them...but not sure. Once the weight is lost I will also be getting cosmetic surgery to lift the boobies along with a neck and facelift and lip injections with juvederm or something like that and since cosmetic surgery does not have the stigma as WLS still has I have no problem sharing that with friends. So, you are not alone in being secretive and you do not owe anyone an explanation.

Your not lieying u are simple choosing to not disclose any information about your personal life.Theres nothing to tell, I'm sure they don't mention every doctors visit or financial decsion they make with you. Same difference, its nobody's business but yours and your husbands.

When thy ask you just say I decided to make healthier choices for me and my family..and SMILE! You deserve to look and feel any way you want!

I hear you you on Cigna

I have Cigna too!! It took forever, but it is true, so true, what a beautiful thing to get that approval. I know that I'm luckier than some, as some folks have had to self pay. I only had my $500 co pay, and I get reimbursed even that fee, I have the flexible spending account thru my employer! Plus all my Protein supplements, Vitamins, gas and acid reducer meds, co pays.

I also have 2 AFLAC policies I'm putting in for tomorrow at my one week post op visit. I'm a single Mom, this is the only way I could afford to do this and be out of work for 3 weeks!!

This is my so called vacation

This is what my boss called it! I have been up front with what I was up to, I have told my co workers that I know have my back,I know that others will talk... but I don't care what they say.

I'm gonna look better than them, that would be the only reason they would wanna start talking about me!! If anyone wants to say"oh you did it the easy way" I will let them know, there is nothing easy about starving yourself for two weeks before, having surgery and then starving yourself again until you can begin eating the right way and working out. It's actually the hard way, if your on a regular diet, if you feel the need to "cheat" it won't hurt anything but your pride. When you do it like us, there is no cheating, you might make your self very very sick!! So, people that do not have a weight issue, thank your lucky stars, for those of us who fight the fight every day, good on us for recognizing our problem and finding a permanent solution to help us in our new lifestyle! Hooray for all of us Sleevers!!

I have Cigna also and had to do the six months physician monitored diet. I was sleeved on the 16th and feel great. I also tried all those diets, weight watchers twice, and they just didnt work for me either. Welcome, we can go through this together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
