I Was sleeved on 4/17 and i just started eating soft foods. My problem is that i have constant pain like right on my esophagus, where u get hunger pains, its awful. If i drink something it hurts till i walk and burp but if i eat its horrible, the food gets stuck there and it takes forever to go down, it feels like im choking. To make matters worse ur not supposed to drink anything so i just have to let the food sit there like 20-30 mins. Anyone has gone through this?

It sounds like it could be a stricture to me

A stricture is what happens when scar tissue builds up in your esophagus (sometimes caused by reflux) that causes your esophagus to narrow and makes swallowing difficult.

Talk to your primary care doctor about it. He/she may be able to help.

I had the same pain when I transitioned to mushies. The problem, I found, was that I was taking too large bites and eating too fast. I found that when I used the baby spoon and slowed down, it got better. Take a small bit, chew like crazy and swallow. If that sets after 5 minutes, take another small bite. I have sort of trained myself now to eat slower and that has made a big difference. I'm told the pain you're feeling is because, at this stage, your esophagus is still larger than the opening to your sleeve. Before you panic, try eating slower....I'm betting it'll get easier for you.

Agree with this. I had the same feeling when I went to more solid food. Using a baby spoon helps so much. You are still very swollen so it could be just that is what you feel. Try smaller bites and more time between and see if that helps.

I had the same problem. It was because I was eating too much too fast. Slow it down.

Are you taking and anti acid? I know that if I have a lot of acid going on I feel like something is stuck. Heck I felt like that for the first 4 weeks.

I called the surgeons office and the nurse told me i had a hernia repaired and that most of patients that go through that process go through that. Nurse asked me to take a step back and go back to liquids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
