Hi All,

My name is Leanne and I've been mostly lurker here for the past few months. I started this process in May with the seminar. I've done my psych and nutrition and have been waiting on insurance approval for the past month.

Well the letter came today and my insurance has approved! Now I'm starting to freak out! My dilemma is that we have a vacation scheduled to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico October 11. Doctor can do the surgery as early as August 29th (my birthday) this will give me exactly 6 weeks healing time prior to my vacation.

I guess I freaking out cause it is happening so fast! I know I really want this but I only have 2 weeks to mentally prepare for it and now I'm freaking out.

I'm also freaked out about any complications that may arise which might jeopardize the vacation. I have to be able to swim with my kids in the pool.

So how did you all feel 6 weeks out, would you have been up for a 5 day trip to Mexico? Also, I will not be getting my first fill prior to going on the trip.

My advice is get the band as soon as you can and then wait to get your first fill until after you get back from Mexico. You'll be fully healed and probably won't have any/much restriction without a fill, so you'll feel like your old self and will be really ready to kick into weight loss action when you get home (and filled). The timing couldn't sound better in my opinion!

Congratulations.

Go for the surgery, schedule a fill for when you come back, and have a wonderful time on vacation. At 6 weeks post-op, you're healed and should not have any restrictions. Welcome!

I'm 5 weeks post op right now. I barely even remember having had the surgery! The stitches came out after 10 days, 2 days later the wounds were totally healed over. I was a bit sore at the port site and bloated for about the first 10 days, and by 2 to 3 weeks post-op, I was ready for strenuous activity (not that I actually did anything that strenuous)! I would concur with what previous posters have said about the timing of your vacation being just about perfect. You'll be feeling really good and you will be able to eat (almost) normally if you put off your first fill till after the vacation - a bit less and slower than before. My doc put in a fill at the time of surgery, but after the swelling went down (14 days post-op) I was able to eat quite big portions (time for another fill for me).

Good luck with everything!

Deana.

My surgery was great too! Went into surgery at 8:30 am and walking out the door 11:30 am to go home, after I got home went across the street and visited my neighbor. I took 3 days off from work, Wed., Thurs. and Friday. Went back to work on Monday and never any problems, no one ever knew anything. I am finally feeling restriction after my fill yesterday, and that is what I have been waiting for. Three weeks ago, I put in a new kitchen floor, all by myself and did a great job if I do say so myself!!! These boards are great and I have learned a lot from them and learn more every day. Have a good day! :clap2: :clap2:

Yup, I think you will be fine for your trip to Mexico....altho I agree with what some others have said...don't get a fill before you go; get it when you return!

Congrats!

No, I didn't stay in the hospital, really no need. I felt great and was really surprised that it didn't take very long. I have to give all the credit to a great doctor that knows his stuff and does it well. :clap2: :clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
