I went to the pulmonary doctor today and found out that I can not travel for a month and I have to inject myself with blood thinners for 10 days. I have two trips planned for June, so is kind of a problem. They are trying to move up my date. Did anyone travel after their surgery? How many days did you stay in the hospital? Thanks for any help.

I had to do the injectables as well. Are you planning far away trips? Maybe that is why they are concerned, getting too far away from the dr's office. I went home the next day at noon, just over 24 hours after surgery. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much for answering. They told me three days in the hospital for sleeve. Well, if they let me go early, it will be a treat. Did the injectables hurt? I already prick my finger for diabetes, would it be more than that? I was so ready to cancel after hearing all of this, but I have to remember that it is this now or worse problems later.

As for the trips, I live in Chicago and we are going to Disney World and Clearwater Beach and then to San Diego for a convention.

Are they giving you Lovenox injections to do? They aren't too bad. The diabetes finger pricks hurt like a b****h if you ask me. The Lovenox shots have to be given in the fat in the stomach which seems uncomfortable but you get used to it. Did he say why you couldn't travel? As you're going to be on blood thinners then you don't really have to worry about clots.

My biggest concern for you is whether or not you'll have the energy for the trips. For me, I could barely function during my first month post-op. If you could get the surgery moved up it might be for the better.

Thanks for your story. That helps. They said for blood clots they do not want any patient traveling. I wish someone would have said something earlier.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
