Why Is The Pain Getting Worse?

Recommended Posts

Today I start my 3 weeks post op (Surg on 4/16) and this pain in my left side is gettng worse. I was fine until I vomited and it felt like something was tearing inside me. Initially thought it was pulled muscle but it is worse. To the ponit I cannot bend over or sleep on my sides. I'm not sure what is going on but have appt. with surgeon in the morning to check it out. Hope they didn't leave anything inside me they were not suppose to.

I have the same thing, I am 2 weeks out just started soft food! I don't think it's anything, I think it'll get better over time!

Let me know how it goes. Good luck!

Lori

Well, I had to be readmitted to the hospital last week on Wednesday. Was dehydrated and constipated. Wife said I looked like hell. A couple of days of IV fluids helped and was discharged on Friday. Friday night was hell.

I don't think I really understood the need to drink slowly throughout the day and try to get your Protein in.

I feel a little better today, but definitely not normal. Thought or smell of food makes me nausaus, but hopefully that will pass. I'm not sleeping well either. Drinking about 4 oz of Water an hour with 3 very small meals.

Crossing my fingers it gets better over time. 24may12 will be 3 weeks post op.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
