urbandecayno5 40 Posted April 30, 2012 But its making me feel heavy and disgusting. I think its the milk..I know there are milk free Protein powders/drinks(that isn't isopure). Maybe something unflavored or chocolate/vanilla . What are some good ones that aren't nasty?
4ALongerLife 329 Posted April 30, 2012 I am a big advocate of Cytomax's Pure Performance Protein RTD drinks. They are now called CytoSport's whey Isolate drinks and have a black wrap around the bottle with white writing. I like the tropical flavored and tangerine. They are 160 cals of clear RTD Protein, 40 g of whey isolate protein without much more in the drink. They are 3.79 for an individual bottle (Isopuke's are 4.19 at the same place). I buy them at Vitamin Shoppe normally. I also like the power pak puddings in chocolate. Those have 30 g protein. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has unflavored protein packs as well. Good luck! urbandecayno5 40 Posted April 30, 2012 Is injury unflavored disgusting..can you taste it?
Forensikchic 528 Posted April 30, 2012 I like unjury unflavored mixed in OJ. you have to drink it with a straw from the bottom because it separates but you cant taste it. I have kids cup from Chili's that I use. I shake it up in a shaker cup and poor it into the kids cup that has a little straw and I sip it on the way to work. There is another unflavored I like better and its by Jarrow. It stays mixed and does not separate. I still use a straw because I am 8 months out. It doesnt bother me to sip with a straw now but I did avoid this for the first few months because I didnt want to have extra gas. You might try these ideas. hth

Joni 94 Posted April 30, 2012 Maybe you're lactose intolerant now? there is lactaid milk in stores. also, there are pills you can take. Might be worth a try then you can continue with the Protein powder you like. I also like Syntrax nectar. There are a lot of flavors and you can mix them with Water. I found the strawberry kiwi good and am waiting on my order to be delivered. If the flavor is a little strong on any of them, you can always add more Water. There is a sample pack you can order for 13.00 that has all the flavors included.
Pookeyism 1,143 Posted April 30, 2012 Give Mootopia a try. it is a supplemented milk. half sugars, lactiose free and 12 g protien for 8 oz...add that to Unjury unflavored and it is great, and 32 g protien.
Cherrybomb 54 Posted April 30, 2012 For those that are on solid food, why not just eat Protein Bars? I wouldn't be choking down nasty, chalky, smelly Protein Drinks if I could just eat something akin to a candy bar with the same results.

I wouldn't be choking down nasty, chalky, smelly Protein drinks if I could just eat something akin to a candy bar with the same results. I am 3 1/2 months out and I haven't found a Protein Bar with the amount of protein, low fat grams, and low carb count as the Premier shakes. I've eaten some bars which are very tasty, but the Premier shakes have 30 grams which help me reach my daily protein goal. I rarely hit my 70-80 grams without a shake. 1 Cherrybomb reacted to this

AliveAgain 283 Posted April 30, 2012 For those that are on solid food, why not just eat Protein bars? I wouldn't be choking down nasty, chalky, smelly Protein drinks if I could just eat something akin to a candy bar with the same results. My doctor and nutritionist strongly advise to stay away from bars. As mentioned, they can be higher in carbs and sugars than is beneficial for the amount of Protein you get. Unless you're doing some major exercise (like CrossFit, etc.) you just don't need it. For shakes, I love the Syntrax nectar flavors - it's about all I use because they mix well with Water and you can make them the strength that you like (1 scoop, 1.5 or even 2). Then again, I am home not working. Once I go back to work, I'll need to find more ready-made options. I am not a fan of the milk-based drinks (dairy, soy, almond, etc.) It's something about the flavor. Plus, most are vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry flavored -- just too sickly sweet for me. But I was also never much of an ice cream, candy bar, etc. person before surgery 2 Cherrybomb and Benjammin reacted to this
thorrocks 0 Posted April 30, 2012 How much Protein is enough? what is optimal? My Dr. has said 8 ounces a day, but this totally ignores the concentration. I am currently using EAS carb control that tastes good but only gives about 17gm. I am supplementing it with NewWhey protein that gives 42gms. but is very heavy and is like drinking glue. Did anyone get any definitive guidelines?
CHELL 41 Posted April 30, 2012 I'm only 7 days post op and honestly I pretty much dislike them all. The smell is a complete turn off. The only one I remotely like is Atkins Dark Choc Royale but sadly it only has 15 grams of Protein. I just discovered today that if I mix one of those with a Premier milk Choc shake n then freeze it's way more tolerable for me n it's 45 grams of protein. Tastes like a fudge sicle. urbandecayno5 40 Posted April 30, 2012 I tried my brothers gold standard 100% whey vanilla. I wasn't a fan but I put it in lactaid milk and also put in sf carnation instant breakfast..it was pretty decent. I think its like 24g of Protein
