6 Days Post Op And I'm Starving.

Recommended Posts

I am really hungry and I'm not talking head hunger. I'm on liquids though. Do u think I could strain some chicken Soup and just eat the liquid part. broth tastes like a bowl of salt so I can't stand that. I'd be sure to get out all the solid pieces. WDYT

I was able to add shakes and drinkable yogurt after day 4...and on day 7 I could add creamy Soups (no chunks). Each surgeon seems to have a different post-op diet.... I would check to see if you can have Protein shakes and start drinking at least 2 per day... Of course, check with you surgeon.. he may give you clearance to move to the next stage.

Good Luck!

Not sure what your doctors diet plan is but this is what mine gave to have 1/3 cup :

skim milk

v-8 juice

low fat blenderized / strained Soups

fat free sugar free yogurt without fruit

fat free sugar free pudding

thinned cream of wheat or oatmeal

sugar free Jello

sugar free popsicles

Hope this helps some to add variety

yes, absolutely you can have the broth after you strain the pieces out. That is then considered a clear liquid.

Thx so much guys. My taste buds r not cooperating post op n all the Protein Shakes I could stomach pre op are making me gag post op. I know I must get Protein in but I just don't know how I'm going to do it. My first follow up appt is Fri so I'll dicuss it with my dr. He has me on strictly liquids (broth, Popsicles, Jello, etc) and I'm starving. Hopefully he'll let me kick it up to at least yogurt, pudding, etc. I think I could stomach Protein Powder mixed in those better than liquids. Thx again.

I am 7 weeks post-op tomorrow and still have not had any hunger. I do know that acid can cause the feeling of hunger. Are you taking an anti-acid pill? I take Prilosec everyday.

I second the acid part. Make sure it isn't acid you are feeling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
