What Would Happen If I Cheated?

Recommended Posts

Aside from the complications i'm a strong believe that one bite leads to another. My friend had the sleeve and has lost a good amt of weight...but then started eating bad foods and lots of drinks and now shes gained back some weight. She thinks that her stomach has stretched out....That sucks :( I mean we go through all this to eventually hit goal and end up screwing it up for a couple good bites of food. Isn't one purpose of the sleeve to change out ways??? <-------------tough love too :) Don't cheat!

<edit> I love this site, but so many people make statements that sound like medical facts, when it's simply their own ideas and views, so be careful on here. I have found MANY of the "medical" comments in accurate. This is great for support but please only say things that you know to be true. For ex,<edit> states that if you cheat too soon, you get food caught in your staples.. that is not at all the reason why we go on liquids and pureed in the beginning and, frankly, it's impossible for the food to get stuck in a staple.. The staples are done on the outside of the stomach and the sleeve looks like a pillow case would if you sewed it from the outside. IE no evidence of staples. In fact, a doctor will not be able to see your staples through an endoscopy for that reason. Just a friendly fyi! :-0)

My doctors nurse told us a horror story specifically involving a tortilla chip. It was one of only 5 cases where the person had severe issues. Basically it caused a major leak.

U guys are right. A week ago b4 surgery when I would hear about people cheating even a yar out I just thought they were sooo stupid. But now that I am actually in the thick of of all. Just getting out the hosiptal today surviving on purely chicken broth and Jello... I just feel like I need a better menu selection. I don't think I know what to eat and I hate this feeling of hunger but no room. I would be ok if it was the soft stage... but I feel like I'll never get there. What is week 2 like realistically as far as what u can eat?

I was one of the forunate ones who's Dr. orders was puree foods after three days, however I could only do liquids my first week out. Good luck

In my personal experience for the 1st week I was clear, next 2 weeks full liquids. Now I am on to the soft mushie stage. I have been having problems with eating. I have tried egg beaters and that seemed to leave my chest feeling heavy. I can't seem to eat the yogurt. I can tolerate oatmeal, cream of wheat, applesauce and sf fudge pop. Just true to hold off a few more weeks before trying to eat "real food" because we have to get to learn our new sleeve as it has to learn the new you. Believe me if you do cheat now, you will definately not cheat again. Good luck!

I am a month out and cheated a little by eating some chips and salsa and 5 mins later I was vomiting in the bathroom. Your stomach can't handle much and even if you think you feel great and what's a little going to do, your not a good as you think. I totally get the urge because you feel like hey I'm having like 500 cals a day what's a little going to do? Right well from my personal experience it normally will come right back out and hurt!

Update** I posted this about 6 months ago. And to the newbies- you shouldn't cheat. It hurts like hell and people wo see you try will label that person that "always throws up." Like my family labeled me. I learned the hard way but I was pretty good. Now at 6 months I went from a very tight size 18 to a size 8.- 244lbs to 177, and when I tell u I am super sexy and curvy at a size 8- I tell u no lie. I eat a well balanced diet. Not for a person with the sleeve but for a person in general. I eat carbs, Protein, veggies and fruits, and.... chocolate. Life is good and I'm still losing and I feel wonderfuly healthy and full of energy. Btw... I ate popcorn like 2 weeks out and nathans mini hotdogs (that I still regret) but I lived.

My advice before you cheat lick the cheese off the Doritos or chew and spot out. I had to do that a few times when I just had to chew something. Don't swallow no reason to risk your health.

I did it. I ate exactly 4 potato chips and I was MISERABLE. Gas, pressure, nausea. I regretted it exactly 6 minutes after I was done. I wanted to throw up but I was scared it would stretch or tear at my staple line. Please be patient!!! Time will fly before you know it.

I posted this topic 6 months ago and I never ended up cheating - even though it was so hard not to! Yesterday, I had my 6 month post-op weigh in and I am down 80 pounds. Good luck to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
