6 Days Post Op Update

Recommended Posts

Well had ny surgery on Monday 4/23. It's getting a little better each day. I'm sip sip sipping on Water, eating lots of sugarfree popsicles and Jello with Protein Powder although I'm not getting in nearly enough Protein. I just can't stomach the shakes post op. I gotta improve on the protein intake.

I'm still sore and think I set myself back a little by trying to sleep on my side in the bed. Bad idea. I think I'll just stay in the recliner although even that hurts my neck and back and it's hard to get comfortable.

I'm am starting to have slight bouts of hunger and wish I could have something more substantial but that's not an option.

I still have my drainage tube and that won't be removed until Friday. Can't wait for that cause it's basically in my way. Lol. My gas has mostly subsided so I'm happy about that.

The one thing I'm none too happy about is the fact that the scale says I'm 6 lbs heavier than the day of surgery. I'm assuming it's Fluid but don't know. Can anyone shed some light on that? That's about it for my update. Sorry it was so long.

I'm 2 days post op..Can't stomach the shakes very well either,,I've been mixing the Protein with minimal amount of Water, taking a small teaspoon probably geting 30 grams of Protein a day...

Are you taking your pain meds??? I have a marcaine pain pump( plus pain meds) that will be finished tomorrow, then I can pull it out...

The gas in my shoulder the first day was terrible, yesterday upper chest and throat..

Stay off the scale...it is not a good indicator right now of what's going on...

I've had several surgeries...hysterectomy laprocopic with vaginal assist and lap-chloe (gall bladder removal) laproscopically ...This is tougher...As soon as I remove my pain pump maybe later today I'm wrapping my mid-section with ace wraps..I did that with my lap chloe and hysterectomy feels more secure..but you need to remember to splint, deep breathe and cough..

Take care one day at a time..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
