Starting at 265, my 22/24 and 1 or 2X clothes were fitting me "tightly" in places. Then I lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet, which I could always lose in the past but never get past on the scale. By then my clothes were fitting me the way they should have fit me. I remember cleaning out my closet 6 weeks after surgery and got rid of half my closet. I still have a pile of nice clothes I need to take pictures of and sell, including a nice black interview suit worn once. I was about 235-240 then and was wearing some 18's a little snug. By 8 weeks out, the 18's fit like they should and I went down in bra size. By 11 weeks out, the 18's were sad and people I barely knew told me to stop wearing the 1X tops because it looked like I was "wearing another person's wardrobe." Now, at almost 13 weeks I'm wearing a solid 16 pants (even some 14 stretch work pants) and either a size M-L top. The first 6 weeks seeing the weight come off but not truly dropping in clothes was frustrating, it just take a little longer to catch up. It's funny now how I'll buy a pair of pants and remember them as "tighter than I'd like" to only find two weeks later already becoming looser than I'd like!!!

I went down in jeans within a week....I waited 2 weeks to buy any, and just sported sweats until then. When I did finally buy jeans, I was down 2 jean sizes...Now, I am down 3, possibly 4, because they are getting baggy on me. I am also down 3 top sizes, and 1 bra size. I did lose a lot in my face and shoulders first though.

Well I've lost 25 lbs, and still have not gone down a size. My highest weight was 298 and I wore an 18 tight. Now my 18's are loose. However all of my size 18's are plus size, my size 16's are not plus, so I still cannot get into them. My size 18 pants are making me look like I got a huge crotch.

So when did you start buying clothes? I was thinking of a clothes saving fund but didn't realize how fast it can happen.

When did others find that the had to buy new clothes? I am curious since I want to know how much money to put away Lol

The larger the size the more difference in the measurements of the clothing. For example, if you measure the waist and hips of most 24 size pants they are 3 to 3 1/2 inches larger than a size 22 of the same style/brand. If you do the same with a size 6 and 8, you will only find about one inch or less difference. So, in reality going from a size 24 to a 22 is way more of a change than going from a 8 to an 6. I have found this out during my years of yo-yo dieting and feeling frustration at not being able to get away from a certain size. That is when I stopped going my clothing size and started taking my measurements.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
