Hi Everyone,

Just started my pre-surg. diet! Getting quite nervous, scared, excited in all.

I was just thinking, can you actually feel the band around you?

Also can you decide where the port will be? Left or right side?

So many questions, so little time...

Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks!~

I can sometimes feel the band on the inside - not from the outside with my hands - or at least, what I think is the band. Usually not, though.

If you have strong feelings about where you want your port to be you should discuss with your doc. I think most of them tend to use the same location they personally prefer. Some docs always use stermum ports, some at the waist on the left, some on the right. My doc put mine just above my waist on my left side. Never occured to me to ask where it was going to go, certainly didn't have enough info to have developed a pre-conceived preference. I think there are advantages and disadvantages to all placements.

If I wear tight pants it pushes my fat up and irritates the port. But mine tends to bother me, anyway. Apparently, some people always have some sort of port annoyance (me), and some people are able to forget it's even there, once everything is healed.

I am hoping to have it on the right (I am doubting it though)

My right side is not as sensitive as my left and the thought of being stuck with a huge needle makes that side of me quiver! LoL

I go for the pre-op with the surgeon tomorrow and will ask these ???.. Thanks again!

Seems like I learn more and more everytime I pop on to read, hard to believe that after 4 mos, I am to this point, felt like it would be forever, in away it was, but looking back now I am so happy I did this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
