About 1 1/2 Years Out! Will I Stop Losing?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Well I was sleeved on 10/29/2010 and it was the best thing I ever done. At my heaviest I was about 424 at my lowest after sleeve, I was 270. I heard that after 2 years, you stop losing weight...is that true? I am afraid that I will and come short of my goal of being under 200 pounds. I know under 200 is a large goal considering in 5'11". And I have a large frame, but if anyone has any info on this please let me know. Good luck everyone!

No, you can continue to lose weight after 2 years. If you exercise and watch your calorie intake the weight continues to come off. What happens is if you aren't careful you will began to eat more and start to gain it back because your stomach is completely healed and you get to where you can eat anything you want. It becomes a case of disipline on your part. Head hunger still plays a great part in your struggle to lose and keep the weight off. I am nearly 2 years out and am beginning to have to use self control more than I have in the past. Remember this sugery is a tool, we choose to use it correctly.

losingnva,

Congratulations on an amazing journey to date... I agree with the other poster...

I can't see why you will stop losing after two years, for me there is no expiry date to the sleeve - I am not at goal at 21mts+ and I refuse to give up trying.

Yes it will take more discipline and exercise, as our bodies get used to what we are doing ... I am very mindful of what, when and how I eat but that doesn't make me perfect.

Good luck to you as you continue to move forward... and downward!

Thanks guys for all of the info. I completely understand about the self control because it is just sooo easy to just eat everything (which is the main reason y I chose vsg instead of bypass. I didnt want the great restriction and I wanted more control) I have to train myself to choose salad or Soup instead of french fries and Water with lemon instead of soda (especially when I go out). But thanks for the encouraging words and good luck and keep up the losing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
