Higher Bmi - Almost 4 Weeks Post Op - Still No Nsv's :(

Recommended Posts

I discovered that I have been down a little lately. While I have lost 23 pounds since since surgery and 30 pound since end of March......I do NOT feel a difference, nor can I "see" a difference. I am still tired and lack energy, my feet still swell. People that see me don't appear to notice a difference either. I am in the same pant/blouse size...albeit my tops are fitting a bit looser than before. Other than that NADA! ZILCH! wah!wah! wah!

I did take my measurements and they have all gone down about 1/2 inch each...but I have always been more "solid" than mushy.

Do I need to lose a 100 pounds to get an NSV or for it to be noticeable? So discouraging.... however patience has never been my virtue.

Sorry for the pity party, but I wondered if any one else has felt like this?

I've also lost 30 lbs since starting my preop diet and although I dropped two sizes on top and one on the bottom, most people haven't seen it. I've had a couple friends say they see a huge difference but coworkers and other people I see daily haven't noticed. One friend who knows about the surgery even said something like "when you do start to lose weight . . . ", ummm, hello?! I personally can't see it unless I see a photo of myself. I guess I'm just saying to be patient, I think as time goes on and more comes off, it will become much more noticeable to those around us, and to ourselves as well.

You all are not alone. I'll be a month out on Tuesday. I'm down 20lbs and several inches. I didn't measure til today but I see it in my clothes. I just don't see a huge difference in me and people don't either. I've had some of the same rude comments about when am I supposed to start losing. It's a slow process and im currently in a stall and about to start my period but I keep trying to tell myself that by doing this slowly, maybe I won't sag as much. At least I'm hoping. I'm ready to see a difference now though

Take pictures of yourself and compare them. I first noticed weight loss in my ankles and my neck/face, but only because I saw pictures of me. I take pictures at least once a month, or whenever I feel inspired to take a few... and that inspiration happens more and more now that I'm starting to like my shape!! :)

I chose to tell only a few friends about the surgery so most do not know. I haven't seen those friends yet, but for the ones that do know...I don't think they notice a difference yet.

That's okay I guess..my hubby says that I seem a little smaller because when he hugs me now he can squeeze his arms around me more. :) - I guess that is a NSV huh?

Oh and I did have to be tacky and use a safety pin to hold my pants up in the waist area yesterday...but the pants in question have always been a bit big in the waist. Hips, legs and calf area fit same as usual.

I'll keep trucking along and keep working on that thing called "patience." :)

I started with a higher BMI then you did. Honestly, nobody really noticed anything until I had lost 45-50 pounds. Just the last 2 weeks everyone is suddenly REALLY noticing. I only lost maybe 15 pounds over the last 5 weeks, but I dropped maybe 1-2 sizes in that time. I notice that it comes in spurts. I saw my primary care doc last week, I have lost 30 pounds since I last saw her. She didn't really seem to notice much difference when I lost the first 40# but was just wowed when I saw her last week. Don't be discouraged, people will start seeing it soon enough.

I like the compliments, but my motivation comes from within - my bloodwork results from my 3 month was enough to keep me excited for quite awhile. My fasting blood sugar, which wasn't great at 99 preop came up as 77 on my 3 month check!!!!

You're right as far as what the true motivation should be.... the main reason for this surgery for me was for health reasons... to lower my blood pressure, keep me from becoming diabetic and ending up having a stroke like my mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. So far, nothing has changed there either as far as my blood pressure...it was 140/80 at the doc on Friday which is still high for me. my fasting blood sugar was 93 and my feet are still swelling. When I start to see these things change....then I will know without a doubt...all of this has been MORE than worth it :)

Lol...I was thinking the same thing. I went back to work after being off for a month. I'm down 25 pounds. I haven't told anyone at work about the wls. I'm glad I didn't because nobody noticed sh*t, as far as my weight loss. The few family and friends that I have told say that have noticed, it makes me think if they're just saying that to be supportive. Anyhow I can feel better and I know I'm loosing weight, I guess that's all that matters.

I too was a high BMI when I started this journey last Sept, it took a good 50-60 pounds before anyone really noticeds any change, which was like 3 months.

But now at 120 pounds lost everyone notices, it will happen I can barely go through a day without someone stopping me and telling me how awesome I look, (tho I still have another 45 pounds to go).

Be patient it will happen.

But also dont just look at your clothes or other people for NSV's/ Do you feel like you move a bit more freely, do your feet hurt less, can you breathe easier?

I don't feel I can move any more freely or that my breathing is different yet.... Still a work in progress...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
