I Blew It Today!

Recommended Posts

MY husband and I went out for brunch, and I did good....about 1/2 an egg, and 1/3 cup of chili. We brought a homemade apple fritter home for Dad and Mom. Unfortunately, I ate about 1/4 of it. Admittedly, it tasted good, but I know it was not a wise choice at all.....

OOH stay away from that sugar! I do miss apple fritters. Haven't had any sweets since November. My surgery was 12/14 and I don't even crave them.

I hear you! It was not even a craving....just an old bad habit that popped up out of nowhere!

I don't think you blew it at all! Before surgery you would have probably eaten the whole fritter and maybe a 2 or 3 more. I would say you did a fine job of controlling and limiting yourself. You did right by not denying yourself a sweet sensation. I would change your title to "I Finally Did It!" (Meaning controlled yourself)

Yeah I have to agree...I don't think you did anything wrong. Just because I got this surgery doesn't mean I'm going to deny myself of every single "bad" food. Today, I had a handful of sour cream and onion chips - they are my weakness!! But, before I would have had an entire bag of them...I'm pretty happy that 5 or 6 of them is all I want now!! Stop being so hard on yourself!

@ Jswilbur don't feel bad we are human beings we make mistakes the problem.will be if u do it all the time or all day long then that is different story remember one thing we did this as a life time deal but don't beat ur self down because once in a while we have to give in to something even though we not craving it

I also had a bad eating day last week and i posted about it and got some great advice which i'm going to pass on to you.

Having a bit of a treat does not mean you blew it. You had the sleeve to make a lifestyle change not to deprive yourself. Every once in awhile you will want to eat something which may not be the healthiest option you'll eat a lot less of it than you would before and then try to make a healthier choice for the rest of the day or work out a little extra.

All of the above posters are right! Nixi, I'm thrilled that you "got" it! :) This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. We're going to eat and drink things that aren't "diet friendly" on occasion, because this is REAL LIFE. The key is to not do that constantly. Normal people indulge in sweets sometimes; they drink alcohol in moderation. We ARE normal people...we're just bigger and working our ways down to a normal size. Enjoy a little treat here and there...and 1/4 of an apple fritter is a little treat. Just remember that you had that treat and try to eat less treats for a few days.

You're doing great!! :)

I really appreciate all these encouraging words! Thank you, thank you, thank you! It is so true....before surgery I probably would have eaten the whole fritter and not told Mom and Dad we bought one for them! (my husband and I live with and take care of my folks). Today is a new day.

This just shows that you now have the will power you didn't have before! I am not a sweet tooth person, I am a salty crunchy person. Now instead of eating 2 baskets of chips at a mexican restaurant I eat two chips and that's all! Congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
