I am struggling with staying on shakes for whole month. Need something spicy and warm. I am 12 days out from surgery, no nausea, no fever, walking good... just really not liking the chalky shakes (I have added fruit and whatever). I really haven't had any issues 3-4 oz down at a time, although it does feel like it gets stuck just under my bra line...like I really have to burp.

I would avoid 3-4 oz at a time for awhile...you can slowly irritate your tummy and start feeling it later.

There are alot of protien drinks that are not chalky...give several kinds a try.

Lean shake (I think its called that) has a truly awesome strawberry and you can get it out of the cooler in pre-mixed bottles at GMC.

Can you have Soups? ? You could easily spice up some sort of beef or chicken broth...but your sleeve may not like the spicy stuff. I don't know since I'm not sleeved yet! But from what I have read most people aren't on "just" shakes.< /p>

I can't do the Protein Drinks either. I am 3 weeks out and getting all my Protein through food now. I eat cottage cheese, fish, tuna, eggs, cheese, and other soft Proteins. I track my food on myfitnesspal to make sure I make my protein goal each day.

I find it interesting how different every doctor is. I have been on "real food" pureed of course since I came home from surgery. I read on here so many people are on shakes or Clear Liquids. I am not sure if one is better than the other it's just an interesting thing to see. I think the real food has helped me learn when I am "full" compared to gassy. I hope you find something you like soon. I just bought the lean shake and it's not bad at all. After surgery I was ultra sensitive to Protein, and I am able to get this in so it must be good. :) Best of luck.

I needed spicy too. I would make the spicy chicken Top Ramen as directed and then give/throw away the noodles and drink the broth. If that's too spicy mix half/half with regular chicken broth.< /p>

When do you start on soft foods?

When did you start to eat regular food??

I started real food at Day 6. I only at a max of 1 tbsp at a time at that point to avoid stress on my sleeve. My paperwork said not to eat more than 3 or 4 tbsp but I played it safe since I was starting food early. When I was two weeks out, I moved up to 2 tbsp max, which is what I eat now.

At my post-op appointment on Monday, I told my surgeon I have moved to soft foods due to inability to drink Protein without vomiting. He was okay with it as long as I kept to small amounts, chewed well, and counted my Protein grams to ensure I was getting enough.

Campbell's also makes a southwestern corn Soup it is part of their veggie line idk but strain the corn out and I swear it taste like chicken tortilla soup, it has just enough kick to ease the spicy craving but not enough spice to irritate your sleeve! it is AWESOME even my picky three yr old thought it was good!

I too am struggling trying to find things high in Protein that are not sweet. Even the no sugar items are sweet. I too want something hot, and salty. I was sleeved on the 4/16/12 the weight loss is slow but steady. Be thankful you are not having issues. The acid reflux gets unbearable. I am starting to not want to even drink Water I'm burning so badly. The protein makes me nauseated. On top of that I started to feel hungry about 9 days not sure how to get through this. I am so glad I took off from work because this is a struggle.

I've been wanting spicy food since surgery also. A couple of times I've had hot wings. I don't eat the skin and just dip small chunks of meat into the the hot sauce and then ranch. So yummy and high Protein too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
