How Much Salad Can You Eat?

Hi, I was just wondering from those of you that are eating salads, how much can you eat? I make a salad with a cup of lettuce, 4 oz of fake crab, 1/4 of a Tomato, 1/4 of a bell pepper with some free thousand island ( just an example) and I can eat most of it...it takes about a hour, sometimes a hour an 15-20. Just wondering?

Im three months out and tried eating a Caesar salad last week as my first restaurant meal, it was THE worst choice ever, I had two mouthfuls which I chewed to oblivion and had to stop, I took a good 5 minutes in between those two mouthfuls, nothing to drink at all but STILL I had cramps for an hour afterwards. Not sure if me and lettuce will ever try out our romance again. (also, I didn't eat the croutons thinking I had to resist carb temptation when I probably should've just had them instead!)

I don't eat lettuce at all. I'll eat all of the other stuff like eggs, cheese, broccoli, Tomato and cucumber, but lettuce has no nutritional value, IMO. If I'm getting a salad as part of my meal, I'll ask the server for no lettuce and dressing on the side... then I use the dressing as a dip for the raw veggies. I've had some spring mix, but I just didn't really like it.

It definitely depends on your lettuce choice. Iceberg carries no nutritive value but is mostly Water romaine and spinach or even spring mix have a lot of Vitamin A and beta carotene and other values that help with Hair growth because everytime I read about hair growth they say lots of water and leafy green vegetables try others butter lettuce and Boston Bibb are tasty

I can probably eat a 1/2 cup of lettuce at 8.5 months. That being said, my program has very strict guidelines on how long to eat - you should take no more that 30 mins to eat, if you do, your stomach begins to empty and that is why you are able to fit more in and it can lead to overeatting. Also, I eat veggies and lettuce for the Fiber more than anything else and lettuce and leafy greens are a great source.

I am like Lissa in the way that if I get a salad, I eat mall the other stuff on top before I eat the lettuce. But then I will eat a little of the lettuce. I have no problems with any salads. hey are a slider food for me. I found that I do not like to chew iceberg lettuce. So now I but chopped romaine or butter lettuce, or spinach.

Slider foods are those that don't fill you up. You wind up eating more because you don't get full but you still absorb the calories.

I can fit around 3 round slices of Tomato, a couple TB of feta cheese, and a few bites of lettuce with vinaigrette, and that just about does it. I'm guesstimating that's around 2/3 c. My sleeve still has a fairly small capacity, though. It took a long time for my sleeve to tolerate them--probably 6 months or so after surgery. There are veggies that I still don't tolerate well--raw carrot, raw onion, cooked or raw cauliflower, raw broccoli--but I eat fruit and veggies/salad routinely.

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
