Ok I was sleeved on 3/26/12 and immediately my surgeon started me on nexium daily. They are great, I have had no problems. 2 weeks ago my DH lost his insurance so now we are self pay for office visits and meds. I took my last nexium yesterday and called in the refill. I was shocked when I went to pick it up. Even with the coupon from the manufacturer I printed online at purplepill.Com that took off $50.00 my cost was $150.53. I simply can't afford this every month. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I ran into the same issue. I have insurance but it has a $500 deductible. One month's worth of the Nexium would be $200! Call your surgeon and see if he will prescribe you a different medicine.

Consumer Reports had an article about how much Nexium is prescribed because of incentives from the drug company to doctors. There are a lot of other drugs (prescription and OOC) that work just as well if not better. Hopefully, your doctor will agree. Good luck!

You could also ask your doctor for samples.< /p>

Call the drug company. For people who can't afford it, you can apply to get it free! I have psoriasis, and recently lost my insurance. I take Humira injections for it, and those are $4,800.00 for a one month supply. I called the mfg company, and now I'm getting them free. It's worth a shot!

There are stacks of acid relief meds out there. There are plenty of options. Just call your surgeon, explain the situation, and ask for a different med -- preferably one that is generic.

Other PPIs (of which one is Nexium) include Omeprazole (Prilosec and a generic version), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (AcipHex) and pantoprazole (Protonix). Maybe get some prices first and then ask your doc if any of these might be appropriate.

I had the same problem before I had insurance. Prilosec OTC worked just as good for me.

Zegerid was better than anything I had ever tried, I used to swear by it. However, since the surgery it doesn't work for me anymore. It is over the counter but I have at least a months worth that I would be happy to send to see if it helps before you spend any money on it. Send me a message with your address if you want to try it. It is still sealed and everything. Good luck!

Oops, I quoted the wrong person, sorry!

Thanks so much everyone. I am going to try all of the suggestions you all sent and maybe i can get something worked out within the next month when i run out. The cost of some medicine is so ridiculous its depressing! I could not imagine if I had a multitude to fill each month at these prices!!

Prilosec -- generic omeprazole is pretty much the same stuff as Nexium. My doc and pharmacist both said to use that instead and save some money. A six week supply of the generic is in the $30 range instead of the $100 that a two week supply of Nexium cost with my insurance.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years back and after trying all the OTC stuff, I found Prevacid works best for me...and is pretty similar to Nexium...and the cost isn't bad at all. I buy mine at Sams when I can to save even more money! Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
