Pre-Surgery Right Side Pain?

Recommended Posts

I have been having pains in my right side just under my ribs off and on for over a year now. It normally happens either while I am eating or a couple of hours after. My galbladder is gone, so I know it's not that. One Dr blamed it on IBS, but I also have a fatty liver which I suspect could be a contributing factor. My question is.. Has anyone else had such a pain and did it go away once you started losing weight?

I had a similar pain that was sort of a dull ache that would come and go just under my ribs. A serious cause was never found, other than the fact that I had a fatty liver.

My pain went away and never came back after surgery! I suppose the combination of the weight loss (I've lost over 100 lbs) and the changed diet (low protein/low carb) helped my fatty liver.

I can't know for sure if that was the source of the pain, but it would make sense that it went away once my diet changed and I started losing weight.

Good luck! I hope that pain goes away quickly because I know how awful it can be!

Thanks, that is encouraging. Even the Dr's wont' say it, I do believe mine is the fatty liver as well. I've had a full CT scan of that area and nothing else was fouond. So glad that it went away for you and never came back. My pain sounds like the same, a dull to strong ache.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
