My nutritionist said to make sure you get the 80 oz of Fluid in, even if you have to skip a meal.

I need to drink more. I still don't get enough in. I eat two cheese sticks for Breakfast or some eggs then once they have digested I drink Water. I try to get in two glasses and then eat lunch around 2pm. I push it until I am hungry. Then I eat meat and a little carbs. Then I drink again. Then I eat again when I get home wait and then drink again. It is tough and I forget to drink or eat sometimes.

Fluids are more important than calories right now. All fluids count, not just Water. Try some Gator Ade...it has electrolytes and some sugar to help give you a boost. Little meals eaten frequently is the key, but as long as you can get fluids in, don't sweat the nutrients too much right now. Your body has a store of nutrients that would take a few weeks to deteriorate significantly. Sip, sip, sip! :)

That is a great question. I'm still pre-op...and i've been wondering the same thing!! I might not be TOO bad, considering i'm up at 4:30 am, to start work by 6. and I get off at 6. (long day). I'm absolutly sure that I will be on here asking a hundred questions when i'm post-op!! lol! Thanks everyone for your help!

I went through this too. I was going crazy with getting in fluids, Protein, and supplements. I felt obsessed. It was all I thought about all day long. Now at 4 months out it is routine. It just takes a while. Stick with it and it will get better. I know that sounds trite, but seriously, that's what it takes. Progress, progress, progress!

My NUT says 60ozs., but I have never had that much. I usually get 36-48ozs. I have up to 600 cals. a day. I have to eat six times to get in that much. I don't go nuts over it. I didn't drink 60oz. before my surgery. I have lost 67# already, so I can't see any problem there. If I lost any faster I would just waste away.

Wow. I'm surprised your NUT said that. In my case she said that while 60oz is ideal, if I get in as little as 48oz I will be fine. I was told to NEVER skip a meal, which is very hard for me because I forget to eat. She said this because we can't "make up" for missed meals as our stomachs are too tiny.

As for getting in Water, the longer you are out from surgery the easier it is. I know the first month was a struggle for me to get in even 40oz. However, as the swelling has gone down I can drink more. I am eating throughout the day as I keep my meals very small (around 2oz) but I manage to get in quite a bit of fluids in between meals. Just give yourself time and try your best. Also, Protein drinks count as fluids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
