5 days banded and port pain

Recommended Posts

I was banded 8-11, and I was not prepared for this kind of port pain. I was given Prescription for pain med but did not fill it, because I was told most likely will not need it. It hurts to sit, stand, lay down, walk, just about anything I do. Is this normal? I have had 10 surgeries in past including 3 knee surgeries and 2 hand surgeries, I thought I had a high tolerance for pain, but I guess not. Any suggestions?

It will get better. For the first 5 days after I got banded, it was really painful. Whenever I moved, it felt like a red-hot poker jabbing into my gut. I literally wanted to scream out loud it hurt so bad. I sleep on my stomach so I was pretty miserable. I wound up taking drugs that knocked me out for most of that time. Lortab, I think it was called. Great stuff!

A week after banding, I stopped taking the Lortab. it still hurt a little bit to lie down and stand back up, but it was tolerable. And for about a month after that, I'd get the odd unexpected twinge that made me catch my breath all of a sudden. It will get better gradually. Just make sure you're getting plenty of rest and doing as little as possible to strain your tummy muscles.

I had only port pain but was lucky not to have the gas pain. I had the liquid loritab and they prescribed for 5 bottles, big bottles, and I only took a half of one. Can you not still get your meds filled. If I was hurting I would. Yes, the heating pad helped me too but I walked sooo much the first few days I don't think I had time to get in much pain.

I hope you feel better soon, try to get your pain meds filled and take them. I know everyone on here says liquid tylenol will do it but everyone is different and there's no need in you hurting if you don't have too.

You are normal! It hurts! It gets better! I didn't start feeling halfway normal for at least 2 weeks, by 4 weeks I was feeling good, by 6 weeks feeling great!

The heating pad works. I had stabbing pain (agree like a red hot poker) especially when I bent over. It did some gardening TOO SOON, bending over a lot! He said I'd irritated some nerve endings and they were letting me know to take it easy. It went away in about 5 days but I thought I was pretty tuff too!
