Thanks A Lot To The Forists...

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm new at the forum, but I have been reading you for a few months.

I am in the process of pre-op and going to have my sleeve done next week. I'm 5'5" and my BMI is 33.

During these days, I have been reading a lot of your kind, interesting and supportive messages to the forists...

You all make a remarkable work helping other people and therefore I would like to thank you all for your high solidarity sense showed here! (I'm glad I found you!) :D

By the way, I apologize in advance for my bad English... I surely need some writing excercises

Best wishes to all from the cold Patagonia (Argentina)

Paula

Dear All;

I'm soooo sad! :(

Today I saw my surgeon to review the last details pre-surgery and he said that he changed his mind, because my BMI is too low now and he thinks that I could manage keep doing my diet in order to avoid the VSG at all !!!!

I can't believe that my "reward" for loosing weight all these months would end in this! Yes, I'm a few pounds lighter now, but without VSG I'd not be able to broken my vicious cycle of loosing weight-gaining weight.

I began with 37,5 BMI in December and the surgeon proposed to loose some weight for preparing myself for the sleeve, but now he says that I'm too healthy (I have no illnesses) and that I shouldn't risk myself with this.

By the way, I was going to pay this by myself, so, he is loosing US 10000!

I realy don't understand why he refused now (1 week before the surgery!!!)

I am so sad and confused that I'm sure I made a zillion mistakes writing all this thoughts and feelings here.... I apologize again for my awful English and thank you all for reading...

P.

What is your BMI now? How much have you lost? It sounds like he is looking out for your best interests. Don't be sad, although I do understand. I am a low BMI and in that grey zone because I've been this way for 15 years and have never been able to maintain any lower. My surgeon might tell me the same thing. Some might say I'm crazy for doing this but extra weight is extra weight and ultimately bad for you. Or else we wouldn't be labeled "obese"!!!

So sorry about that, but I would hope your surgeon is looking out for your best interests. I'm kind of in the same but (but with a much higher BMI). My insurance requires documentation that my BMI is at least 40 over a six month period. I've been working with the nutritionist and really wanted to try and lost a good bit of weight before surgery. Then I realized that if I lose more than 22 pounds I would be under the requirement and they wouldn't cover it. So, I'm going to continue to work on my eating and drinking habits in preparation for my post op life, but I'm definitely not going to try and lose much weight. It's sad that this is part of the game that you must play in order to get the surgery.

Best of luck to you and I hope you keep posting here anyway.

Wow, that is horrible! Would you consider going out of the country for your surgery (if you still felt you needed it)?

I am going to Mexico as my BMI is not high enough for my insurance to cover it (about 38 right now, but no comorbities).

@FindingMyself Exactly! I agree with you... My story is also an eternal cycle of weight ups and downs.

I' ve decided to continue with the diet... with or without sleeve, I have to keep making some changes: that is long lasting diet and gym.

Of course I am aware that I have to be patient and change my life for good (and not just for a short while, as I always do)

I remain seated 12 hours a day, because of my work, and that is not healthy at all...

As @kzsar said, I was a little naïve, because I made the diet as the doctor recomended and now I have lost the Sleeve just for doing the things well... That's unfair!

My surgeon said also: " I have some serious doubts about doing this procedure to you, but there are a lot of other surgeons out there that could solve that..." I just don't want to ge the sleeve that way... with anyone less experienced!. If he has doubts, I should have them too... Don't you think?

Now I'm hungry, a little sad, but I'll keep doing the effort of the diet. I hate it, but I have no other option at this moment.

@NJsharon, Here in Buenos Aires are many surgeons available, and I always knew I have to pay, becaus of my low BMI. The question is: if my surgeons has doubts, ( because in my case I could make just a diet and avoid the risks of the surgery) shouldn't I have some doubts too?

All best to you all and thank you for writing! :)

Paula

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
