Motivation

Recommended Posts

I need some motivation. Right now doc said I can walk. I try to schedule walks with friends. I'm walking a 5k Saturday for autism. I need to be walking everyday for longer periods. How do you motivate yourself?

I think partaking in races is a great idea! Make your next race an 8K or a 10K, that way you have something to work towards. As you are further out from your surgery, you can also start running - that way you can work on improving your finish times.

Take a dog for a walk, if you do not have one you can go to your local dog shelter and the dogs there will be happy to see and go and take you for a walk.

I wear a pedometer and set a goal for myself of at least 10000 steps a day. Keeps me motivated to get all my steps in!

I successfully completed my 5k. I walked and finished in 1 hour and 3 minutes. I hope to increase my time at next month's 5k. Thanks

I do indoor / treadmill walking and other exercise while watching The Biggest Loser (there's a great site with lots of shows including Biggest Loser Australia) - only watch while exercising, so if I want to know what happens next, I've got to exercise!

I also have to add that my energy levels have gone up tremendously since I started exercising about 5 or 6 weeks post-op and I feel a difference even if I've missed only one day of exercise. So that is an addiitonal motivator for me to keep on track with my exercise program.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
