hello,

about 10 years ago, I had the lap band done...it worked for me, until about a year ago. I found out that it was leaking, my surgeon replaced it, but i became septic, so I had it removed again...about 6 months later i got the sleeve.....my starting weight with the sleeve was about 180lbs.....my weight loss has been, very very very slow comparing to the lap band, im so afraid that i wont reach my goal weight that I was before...has anyone else experienced this...thanks :)

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have a question for you. I was banded 3 1/2 years ago and my doc confirmed last week that my band has a leak. They are asked insurance to pull the defective band and revise to a sleeve. How did you find that your band was leaking? Anything that I need to be aware of as I wait for the insurance to respond?

Gigi,

i started feeling hungry all the time, and there was no restriction, when i went to my doctor he would try to add sailine, he was able to put in more then the max amount allowed...my insurance only paid for a removal of the band or just a revision of the port, they wouldnt pay for anything else, because i wasnt considred obese. so i had the band removed, and then paid for the sleeve out of pocket.

My doc was suspicious the last few fills, so they started drawing out out all the Fluid and measuring it, then putting in fresh Fluid. The last time, only 1/3 of the fluid from before could be extracted plus the fluid removed was blood tinged one time and yellow the next. Not sure why, any ideas?

I am afraid that my insurance will give me the same answer as you. My only grace my be that my weight is 211. I have Alabama BCBS, what is your insurance?

Newbie, as for you, you do know that the more weight you lose, the harder it is for the pounds to come off. Hang in there!

Gigi

Mila, are you trying to lose weight regained with the Band, or did you keep your weight loss pretty stable? If you lost a lot of your excess weight with the Band, and have a smaller amount of weight to lose after being sleeved, it's going to go slower as you get closer to goal.

It sounds to me that you do have a leak...about the blood that is strange..I had united healthcare...Buy, when this first happned to me I was only 110lbs, nad thats why they didnt want to pay for the .. the replacement....:(

keep me posted, i would love to know your results.

When I got the sleeve in March my weight was 185 lbs..I know weigh 167...the weight loss feels very slow to me....I lost about 10 lbs the first week, since then im loosing about 1 to 2 lbs a week, and there are some week that I am not losing anything at all...Its frustrating....when I had the band I had much more restriction.

Good luck with what every you decide.

With the lap band my weight was stable...I went from 230lbs to 110lbs...I kept it off for 10 years while the band worked. But once the band came off I gaine weight fast. The day of my sleeve surgery my weight was 183 lbs...I know weigh about 167....10 of these lbs i lost the first week, since then its been a strugle....with the lap band my results were much faster, however i was very tight. I hope that the sleeve works for me. i dont feel like its as restricting as i thought that it would be. I read how diffrent people have a hard time eating so many things, I dont have any problems with any foods. i even asked my doctor, if he is sure that he did the surgery...lol...I know that slower is better. my biggest problem is that i get hungry quickly..I try to go to the gym about 3 to 4 times a week..i would on incline about 3 miles....it just seems much harder then i expected it to be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
