Can You Drink To Much?

Recommended Posts

I have just been sleeved and I am so worried about becoming dehydrated I have been drinking constantly. I am still on full liquids so I have been drinking crystal light, Gatorade, Water, Decaf tea, and broth. Should I limit how much I drink? Can I over do it on liquids?

My nutritionist told me to drink 80-100 oz of liquids (besides ice pops and jello).

It would be pretty hard to drink too much. Just drink as much as you can. ;)

But what about stretching my pouch? I am 5 days post op and I can drink as much as I want. I just had a whole can of chicken broth without even thinking about it, and now I'm scared that I'm stretching my sleeve. Is it possible to stretch it with liquid?

Isn't it funny that we seem to lucky and are able to drink.... And we are questioning our good fortune. I think there are a lot of people who would love to able to drink like us! =). Once we get to have "real" food I think we will have the restricted feeling everyone else is talking about.

I hope so. I'm worried that I won't get the restrictive feeling or I'll blow right past it and blow up my stomach and fail. :(

I just went to our patient education today and we were told during our Phase One (first week) not to drink more than eight ounces of Water in an hour because Water is heavy and having a pouch full (even briefly) can put stress on the staple line.

Of course, every doc is different, so YMMV.

I'm right there with ya, sister!

I can't wait to look back on this (100 lbs lighter) and realize how silly I was.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
