Its Becoming All Too Real And Scared!

Recommended Posts

I received a call today from my surgeon's office and my pre op testing is scheduled for 04/30 and if all goes well I will be having surgery 05/21/12!!!! It is so exciting but at the same time I'm sitting here in a daze experiencing all other emotions as well. I didn't think I would be a may sleever!! I'm so happy! I'm so scared!!!! I'm really doing this!!! :o

The emotions and anxiety are crazy - but be strong. Think positive and before you know it you will be on the "other side"! May 7 is my date and each day now is a roller coaster. I find that if I keep reading this site I will be fine. Go for it!

Yeah.. Elizabeth, I was thinking today that if we pay for this surgery before we have it, what if something happens before or we change our mind? Do we get our money back?? LOL :P

It is really hitting home with me too. I do have 3 weeks but all kinds of things are going through my mind. I'm sure we are doing the right thing. I know we are like everyone else on this site and need and want this so much that there isn't any other choice. I pray you have an easy surgery and speedy recovery. :) Keep me posted on how you are doing. Who is your surgeon?

Congrats on your date!

I wasn't positive that I would go through with surgery until I was in the recovery room. :o The entire year of my pre-op appointments it felt like just something I was thinking about more than something real. Even on the OR table, I was deciding if I should actually go through with it, but then I woke up in recovery.

Honestly, if I had known how easy it was going to be, I wouldn't have spent so much time debating it. The worst part is the pre-op liquid diet. I expected pain that I didn't have. This was my first ever surgery at the age of 48 so I had no idea what to expect. I feel like I wasted a lot of emotion on worrying. By Day 5 I was back to my normal life. I wish I could have done this 20 years ago.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
