To crave things you were never interested in before? I have never been interested in sushi before but have found myself wanting it so bad for 2days that I drove 35 minutes to pick some up last night for dinner for my whole.family (I could only eat 1 piece because I ate my Protein first like a good girl). whats going on and can I expect this kind of behavior more often lol?

I've seen it the other way where things I used to crave I can no longer stand. It seems reasonable to go the other way also.

Yes, you can expect this behavior more often. You have chosen to be healthy and in this journey, that means healthy eating. I have found myself craving veggies which I totally hated before. Now I enjoy veggies and will totally eat them. I also find that when I eat fish, I tend to lose weight then. I think it's the Omega 3's in the fish, so now I am taking fish oil capsules. They rock! I love eating healthy now. ;)

I think that's a natural reaction to the changes we're going through. I'm glad your new cravings are positive rather than for junk food! :) Enjoy the sushi!

I have been craving salmon patties' date=' which I NEVER ate before![/quote']

I have alway despised salmon patties; but I have had to make some since my surgery. First time I have made them in 14 years. Very strange...

I never thought of it as a healthy craving but I guess you are right. I had favorite foods before surgery that just don't even sound good at all anymore. I am glad because they were not foods I should be eating in the first place!

I have definitely had a big change in my taste; even since the first few months of being sleeved! It's still in flux for me. It's strange but it does appear "normal."

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
