Just remember this isn't the bypass at all. My mother n law had the bypass and is back in plus sizes less than 10 yrs later. When I told her I was getting sleeved she was jealous. She said she wished she could have gotten it back when she was given her options. And all the people I know who were banded feel the same way...you have chosen wisely. Don't let doubts creep in and take away your blessing!

Look at it this way: you have a 1/2 to 1% chance of a "what if" with the surgery. You have almost a 100% chance of complications associated with your being obese. The cards are completely stacked against you right now. You will never be completely happy and healthy the way you are. You have been given an opportunity to take the reins of your health and take it in the direction you want it to go. If you let it get away, you will probably regret it the rest of your life. It's ok (and normal) to be nervous; but don't let an irrational fear of the unknown prevent you from achieving your dreams. You actually have a 3% chance in the US of dying while giving birth. Then you have about another 5% chance of something being wrong with your baby. I bet those statistics wouldn't stop you if you wanted a child, would they. If I had a 99% chance of winning the lottery, I would take it. I won mine 2/14/12 when I was sleeved.

I am not banded yet either, I am still doing the pre op testing. Some days I have all the confindence in the world to go forward with the surgery and then my thoughts turn crazy with the" what if's".....What I DO know is that I can't keep living this way yo yo dieting. I know I need to do this for my health and I am grateful that I have the opportunity. I just have to get over the worry hurdles and just do it!! This forum has been a wonderful place for me to come to daily to build my confidence and ease my fears. I hope you feel better about your decision too!

I get moments too that I just start to get scared about the what ifs. But like everyone is saying here, if I stay on the course I'm on now, it garanteed I will have poor health and poor quality of life. I know deep down I'm taking control of my health and ultimately I will live longer because of it. You know what is right for you, if you are ready keep moving forward. If you need more time to decide or not 100% sure, then take a little more time to figure out what is right for you. Just being here, asking for support is a step in the right direction regardless of your choice. I wish you all the best.

What made me chage my mind were several things. I am a very intensive researcher and i research like crazy before i put any pills, Vitamins, choose hair dye, surgery etc...so i did my homework with a lot of passion on this topic. I did all my exams...endoscopy, nut..and psych...however as the day was approaching, i started getting deppressed and tried to figure out what lead me to want to cut out my stomach as a last resort of loosing weight. I analyzed that the stomach is the biggest producer of the hormone, grehlin. Even though it is produced in other parts of the body, the stomach is the biggest producer. That hormone is responsible for memory. So i didnt want to take the chance of getting alzheimers later in life. I also learned so much with my NUT that i began to think...i am such a successful business person. I am a great mother and wife and have many successes...so why cant i pt some effort in actually excersicing and learning how to eat right instead of going to the extreme of doing something that is not reversable. Alsoall the juices and enzymes will no longer be in the stomach and the sleeve is a fairly new procedure. There is not enough data to plot the results of people for more than six years. As soon as i made the decision not to get it done, i felt like a huge load had been lifted from me. Those were my reasons. I did not want to risk it. I rather challenge myself to the weight loss and put a bit more effort in learning what, how much and when to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
