Please Help, Has Anyone Else Had...

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Really struggling at the moment, not been 100% well for months, and my GP is clueless about WLS.

Basically am going back for a 3rd opinion tomorrow, but the dr has asked me to see if anyone else has had the same symptoms, so ot might help diagnose me. Basically I feel run down, keep getting bouts of anxiety/depression, have a mouth full of sores which wont go, and both hands are covered in small painful Water blisters which wont heal.

Dr wont even run blood tests as they dont know what to look for.

Feeling a bit peeved about it all tbh!

Cludgie, do you have psoriasis? Those blisters on your hands sound like psoriatic arthritis.

this could be a vitamin/mineral/electrolye problem, your body has been through alot of changes I think thats where I would start...........dietian and labs for these levels.

My child has had hand, foot and mouth disease, but he really couldn't articulate how he felt with it. However, I had a friend get it last year and she said she was run down, her joints hurts, so tired and just overall felt bad. She thought she had something terminal (how she put it) because she felt so bad with it. Apparently it affects adults much differently than children and it's not very common for adults to get. Maybe this is why your GP hasn't thought to test for it. Anyway, good luck. I hope you feel better very soon.

I had my surgery 8 days ago and while I was in the hospital the nurse gave me another antibiotic to combat "thrush" or what some call "hand, foot and mouth disease".

She said that one of the antibiotics that they give us post op for the surgery can cause this, so now they give another one to prevent this from happening. You have to tell your doctor to research this disease, because that is exactly what it is and is treatable. My daughter had it when she was 1 yr, old. and she was successfully treated for it. Good luck to you!

I got this answer from my friend who was a nurse for many years and saw a lot:

Oh, man! This lady is Vitamin deficient! I can't believe they won't run blood test and are too ignorant to know what to test for! They need to check her endocrine levels, Vit A, B's and D level, check her glucose processing (fasting blood sugar) and cortisol levels. These are my initial thoughts..... will continue to give thought to it as we are in the midst of lessons.....

She needs to start loading up on Vitamin C, 4,000-6,000 mg a day. 1,000 at Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. 10,000 IU a day of vit D as well as A to start. She may need more. Taking vit A and D together help balance each other out and decrease toxicity. Studies show that you can take upwards of 50,000 IU's of A a day, but I wouldn't do that without supervision. Vit. A with Breakfast. D at dinner (it will help her to sleep). What most people don't know is that Vitamin D isn't just a Vitamin, it is a hormone. If you are lacking in D, it can throw everything off. She needs a good B complex to take twice a day. The anxiety/depression should improve as she takes care of these things. I would bet anything that her adrenal glands are taxed. That is why she needs an endocrine panel. The sores should start to clear up as she takes the Vitamins. I am curious to know what her diet is like. Some of this could be related to any meds she might be on?

That's it for now. I will keep thinking.

I work at doctors office and it sounds like hand foot mouth. We see this with all ages.

I agree, sound just like it. Suggest this to your doctor, it's caused by a virus.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I took them to my gp, who promptly ignored them!!

Thankfully I met one of the bariatric nurses from my local unit, who is so outraged by my gp's lack of support that she has agreed to speak to someone senior at the hospital to see if they will pick up my care. I should find out more in the next few days, so fingers x'd.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
