I am scheduled for my surgery tomorrow and am having a case of the doubts and what ifs. Completely self serving post, I recognize, but can anyone tell me what I am in for as far as pain goes and maybe talk me off the ledge a bit?

I know how you are feeling. My surgery is May3. The closer I get the more scared I get. I was never like this with my lapband. But I keep questioning if I am doing the right thing. Then comes the what if....

I had to go to a class the other day and there was a girl who had her sleeve the day before that was up walking around the halls. The nurse ask her if she would come in and share her experience with us. She said she had a little discomfort the day of surgery but the pain meds they gave her worked fine. She said when she had to go and drink the contrast in raidology for her leak test that it was a little painful the first time she tried to drink but it was not overwhelming. She told us not to be nervous it was really no big deal.

I have been reading on this website for a while now and everyone I think has the same fears and doubts but then they say it was not as bad as they had imigined it would be. I guess everyone is a little different. Most doctors are not going to just leave you there laying in pain.

Let me know how it was cause my surgery is fast approaching and like you IM SCARED.... :o

I am one week post op and you may not believe me when I say this but I wasn't nervous a single second.... clear up to when I laid on the operating table. My surgery went great and I had no gas, no nausea and just a mild discomfort (like doing 100 crunches).... That's it! You will have pain meds through your IV so don't worry about pain.. Keeping a positive attitude is the key!!! You will do great!!

I really didn't have any pain after the surgery, it was difficult to get in and out of bed to go to the bathroom. I did however, push the morphine drip when ever I had a chance. I knew that if I didn't I would have gone stir crazy and wanting to get the HE** out of there. So the morphine helped me stay calm. ;)

I'll be 1 month post op on Wednesday. I started freaking out a couple of days before surgery. I know now it was just cold feet. You need to have a positive outlook going into surgery. A positive outlook will help you get through the first couple of weeks when, honestly you will probably feel like you may have made a mistake. But I promise it gets better!!! I get more comfortable and happier with my decision every single day.

I had the majority of pain the day after surgery. The gas went to my shoulders and made it nearly impossible for me to get out of bed without help. I also vomited from the morphine and they have me Tylenol thru my IV. I felt good and walked around my first night, second day was rough, and the next day I went home. I was sore for a couple of weeks and it wasn't a walk in the park, but many say they were fine with meds. I chose

To only use pain meds at night so I could sleep. I think I did that for 6 nights and I haven't taken anything since. I had moments of regret - that's totally normal. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow, down 38lbs and convinced my sleeve saved my life. Good luck :) you'll do great!

I had my surgery 4/6 and it wasn't that bad. I had no real pain just some discomfort. I was given a morphine pump and used it a few times on the day of surgery, but was up walking around that same day and using the bathroom. At home I'm taking it easy but I can walk 45 minutes easily and am feeling great. The stages of dietary restrictions can be sort of boring, but time flies...started pureed/soft foods, and doing well with Protein and liquid intake. Think positive!

I used the morphine pump at the hospital and took the loritab at home for about the first 8 days, tapering at the end to just at night. I felt fine when I was moving. I could walk without pain, but could feel discomfort when getting in and out of bed. I slept with a lot of pillows so my bed resembled at hospital bed with my knees propped and my back elevated. It was very comfy.

I didn't want anything around my waist and hung out in a comfy nighty. I think walking and sipping Water throughout the day really helped speed recovery for me.

Best wishes on your surgery. It's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Lynda

Good luck to you. You'll be fine. I really wasn't nervous but I was sooo ready to get this done. The pain was not bad. I didn't really have much tummy discomfort but I did get some shoulder pain. Make sure you take your pain meds so you can get up & walk. The more you walk the better off you will be. I am one month post-op tomorrow and I have no regrets. Keep us posted on how you're doing:)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
