My surgery is next week. My surgeon is Dr. Billing. I researched a lot of doctors and actually interviewed several surgeons before I chose Dr. Billing. He is also associated with the nutritionist that I've been seeing for several years now and her recommendation was this center. I have been very happy so far with my communications with Dr. Billing. He is always attentive and answers my questions thoroughly. He looks you direct in the eyes when he talks to you. I talked with several of his post-op patients and they all raved about him. I'm very confident in my choice.

Hey Moonrisen, I'm the patient in the household and I've got to say, Drs. Billing and Crouthamel, two of the three surgeons in the practice, worked on me on 01/17/12. I couldn't be a happier camper. Period. From the posts I'd read on this site pre-op, I'd expected a few things, like, shoulder pain, gaseous emissions, and some pretty harsh pain but none of it happened. Oh sure, I did accept the painkiller injections in the hospital (Evergreen in Kirkland and, yes, also a great experience) but I honest and truly had just one day of pain and that was it. I can also hip you to the nutriton peiple this practice uses. Pacific Nutrition and Wellness. They're in the next building north of their offices. Watch out for the PN&W front office staff, they can be a tad rude but I've dealt with two nutritionists and one exercise physiologist and have no complaints with them. I've already lost 72 lbs from my high (or should I say low!) of last summer and I'm employing new ways to live. Baby steps, they really do work. Well, I didn't intend this to be a novella. Stay in touch with what you decide to do, I'll be interested and good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
