My mother is famous (infamous!) for saying:

"Change comes from inspiration or desperation....so, which one are you?"

I hated that phrase as a kid. Now I use it frequently.

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the

intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well

preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,

chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body

thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming

I saw one on here or the OB board that I just love. I probably will mangle it a bit, but I think it's: "You don't drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there."

That is so helpful to me because it reminds me that I can fall off the wagon and climb back on. Now that I'm at goal with the rest of my life in front of me, maintenance is my biggest worry. The other night I dreamed that I thought I was 170 (I think my mind is still adjusting to the fact that my new normal is 135), but when I stepped on the scale ! was 20 lbs more, 190.

Now I can still remember pre-surgery when I was trying so hard to get under 200 and 190 was a dream I just couldn't achieve, but in this dream it was a nightmare!

I think the fears will settle with time. But in the meantime, instead of drowning, I'm gonna remember to stand up when I fall down!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
