Thanks for asking! I'm doing relatively well. Hit my fluid goals for the first time today and am slowly easing into full liquids. Still walking frequently, but not able to get around so well just yet - having a fair amount of pain on the right side of my belly. This too shall pass!

Good for you with the Fluid intake! I hope the pain is not so bad, I think by you having a positive attitude will do wonders for you and your recovery. You sound as though you're getting the hang of this. I think as long as we pay attention to our bodies we will be ok. I pray you continue to do well and enjoy sitting on that Losers bench.

thanks, redvet! feeling better every day. Trying to wait until my 2 week appointment to weigh myself, but it is so tempting!

If anyone is interested, I have a full box of Optifast left over - 6 vanilla 1 chocolate- and would be happy to hand off to one of you. Not sure how I ended up with extra, but it's $15 you could save. Pick up in Newark off of Kirkwood Hwy.

I have BCBS DE (Personal Choice PPO)...just curious...i know everyone is different tho...Also, i see u bought alot of things for ur pre op diet...i hope to be in that boat soon...what are ur favorites out of what u bought?

Qt, the shakes are sold based on your BMI. I had 6 per day at $15 per day. You can but bars and Soups for an additional cost each. I decided to go inexpensive and just do shakes. I did all vanilla and chocolate. Honestly, they weren't tasty, so I treated it like medicine - something you have to do to get better. They were best blended with Water and ice. I supplemented with SF Jello and Popsicles, and broth. Drink plenty of Water and crystal light and you'll feel full faster.

I too have BCBSDE, and it took about a week and a half from submission to approval. Note that the surgeon's office submits once you've had all of your clearances done.

Thanx for the advice @reluctantMANGO...as of the 8th i will have all of my clearances...on the 8th I go for my medical clearance which is the last one before the surgical clearance...but they told me they wld submit it after the medical clearance and have me come back in to speak to Dr. Halbert in the wk or two while waiting for approval...they said i can get the pre-op stuff at that time so i would just have to wait for a call to start the diet because at that point they wld give me a date...im just so ready to have it done! Im so happy that u are doing well and are over that hump to the losers bench :)...I will definitenly keep u ladies posted on what happens...Just excited that I have gotten this far and this is pretty much the end...

A question about your insurance (same as mine) BCBSDE...were you required to lose a certain amount of weight before approval? I am struggling. ...which is why I want/need this surgery.

Hey ladies! Good news I am approved!!! Got the letter in the mail yesterday so I'm sure they will call me this wk with a date! I do have my surgical clearance on Wednesday where I buy my opti-fast!! So excited!! @@Emkaydee3 I have BCBS also and they submitted to Insurance on April 11th...the paper sd approved on the 12th so it only took a day for them to say YES!!! Also, I did not have to lose weight considering I was on the lower side...just had to do the classes n clearances....but of course have to do the 2 wks pre-op also....not sure about the losing weight for anyone else BUT that wasn't even a requirement for me even if I was bigger...

Yay for your approval, things really move quickly from there!

I was not told I had to lose weight, but I know that is taken into consideration when the insurance company is assessing your case. I was told to lose or maintain and ended up losing nearly 20 pounds.

I hope it does go really fast....actually I tried to keep myself busy during the process so it actually seems like the entire thing went pretty fast...EXCEPT for when she sd she was submitting it...that seemed like it went in SLOW MOTION....lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
