Hello CT - Checking in from Branford. This bad weather has been a challenge! I'm lucky in that I can work from home on snow days, but do find it harder not to graze and wander into the kitchen when I'm not in the office. Also looks like with the snow coming, I won't make it to the gym tomorrow. But I have a plan! Bought some stretchy cords and a few weights and a yoga mat, so I have no excuses! I can do some planking, I can walk up and down the stairs, etc. Exercise has been the key to my body transformation. I haven't lost an extraordinary amount of weight, but I look very, very different and my size in clothing is going down much faster than the scale. Was in a size 22W pants on day of surgery, now just bought my first pair of size 12 petite! I think I got lucky with those pants, because my 14s still fit, but still - was so excited I burst into tears in the Dress Barn fitting room and had to call my mother!

I hope you all have a nice day -- sun is still shining here!

Ellen

Day 3 of my pre-op diet. I think the tide is finally turning. The last two days have been tough but the scale is responding already!

Hi guys, I am from Higganum. My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 31. Having my sleeve done at Yale by Dr Nadzam. I am getting really nervous. I hope I am making the right decision. Second thoughts are normal, right?

Hi - I had my surgery in August at Yale by Dr. Roberts. The hospital experience was really good. They took very good care of me. Spent two nights. In on Wed, out by Friday afternoon. Back at work (but from home - no driving) on Monday. Of course I do most of my work on a computer or on conf. calls -- couldn't have done a physical job for a few weeks.

Good luck. You'll be fine. Your profile doesn't say - are you a man or a women? Care to share your age? I'll be 57 in a few weeks, and I am doing well.

Ellen

Hi Ellen, I am a 47 year old woman. I am so excited to get healthy this year! I have 2 kids 8 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. I started my family late due to infertility issues :). My daughter is really worried about my surgery, so I am taking her with me today for my pre-op appt with Dr. Nadzam. How is your weight loss going? Thanks for reaching out to me, I love knowing someone who went to Yale and had a good experience. My surgery is actually at the St Rae's campus, they told me that in the fall they are opening up a Bariatric unit there and no more surgeries will be at the Yale campus. Keep in touch!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
