Only A 7 Day Pre-Op Diet For Me

Recommended Posts

I talked to alma yesterday because the paperwork just stated to start the diet 7-14 days before surgery. I know that I am a long 29 days out from surgery but I was trying to mentally prepare myself for this pre-op diet. Well according to her, I only have to do a 7 day pre-op diet because my BMI is under 40. I just missed the mark because my bmi is 39.3, but hey, thats not 40 and now I don't have to start on the 8th of May!!!!!

So excited... :D

I was told I had to do the finally three days of the diet (bmi 34.5) but I've decided that i'm doing the whole two weeks. I've been eating like a pig and I somewhat feel like starting the diet (may 1!) will be a relief of sorts.

Of course, I may change my mind once i'm on it lol :)

I too had said that I was still going to do the two week diet... but then i just put it right out of my head immediately.... why torture myself.... pretty soon I wont be able or want to enjoy stuffing my face with all my favorites.... might as well get it in where I can fit it in now... :D

I have a 2 week diet of eating sensibly, so smaller portions, lower fat, lower sodium. low carbs etc.

Then 3 days pre-op of liquids only.

So really not too bad either. Think I will do a Protein shake for Breakfast & lunch & sensible dinner in the evening. Well that is my plan anyway! LOL

I think that I am going to try to at least eat sensible in that for the first week and then the week liquid diet. I realized that since I have set my date for surgery I have gained 3 lbs and goodness I don't want to push my BMi up those few notches in the next few weeks. Then I will have to do the 2 week pre op diet

Yeah, I am sure my weight has crept up a couple of pounds since I set my surgery date too. As I've been pigging out a little bit!

So actually looking forward to starting a 2 week diet to help me get back down a bit!

I would be embarrassed if I showed up heavier than what I wrote down on the application!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
