I totally felt the exact same way. How much Water and Protein are you taking on daily? Some times when we are not getting in enough Fluid dehydration will simulate hunger. Once I increased my protein and water I didn't feel ravenous all the time.

Not being on a good PPI, or being on one that isn't doing the job for you can also cause you to feel hungry when you aren't actually hungry.

And is this really hunger? I'm not poking at you, I'm asking you very seriously. Is this just a matter of you feeling like you could eat more or like you wanting to eat more? Separating the two will help you in the long run.

Finally, your foods are still fairly soft. You might find that your desire to eat more or your ability to eat more than a few bites goes away once you're onto things like chicken/tuna salad or scrambled whole eggs.

Good luck - you're doing the right things and I hope you can find a solution that makes you feel happier about how/what you're eating.

From what I understand is that everyones stomach is a different size to begin with and thats the determining factor on the quantity your able to hold. I must have had a small stomach cause I can eat half of an Atkins oatmeal bar and be done for the day. In fact thats all I ate so far today besides a Protein Shake. I feel bad that I cant eat more cause I feel its hindering my progress.

Capt Derel, Your capacity will increase as your sleeve heals and the swelling goes down. Try to make sure you get your liquids and, if necessary, use Protein Shakes to help get your Protein. I'm not sure if you like the Premier Protein bars, but they have way more protein in them than any other bar I've found (30g vs 15g) and they are a basic in my diet right now. Since your capacity is so low, higher protein is a good thing.

I just was expecting to get full on a few bites and not be able to finish the whole 1/4 cup of egg. I have been on different forums and read of people getting full so fast. With me I have no problem eating it all and I fell I can eat more. Now I don't feel like Im starving or anything like that

I can eat about 1/2 cup of anything soft but if it's a Protein I can usually only eat about 1/4c. I can definitely eat more now than two weeks ago so I think the swelling has gone down in my stomach.

Soft foods can be eaten in larger guanities than semi salad or solid foods. This is normal. Try not to worry about it. Your sleeve is fine. Follow mindful eating habits. Is the weight coming off? I suspect it is. Hang in there. Contests on your journey. ;)

I'm 3 years out and can just barely get down 6 oz at a time, if it's pure Protein like salmon, chicken, turkey, etc then only 1 small piece, maybe about 3 oz, 1 egg, and if having cheese, 1 string cheese. . . Water and fluids are great. . . no problems getting that down at all. But let me tell you, i sure don't miss pigging out! hehehe

@Tonyrizz- im 17 days out and I too feel like my capacity is much greater than what I dare take in.

I am eating a whole poached egg with no problems- I feel like I could eat more but wont. The cool thing is that if I really think about it, after the egg..... Im really not that hungry, i think i am used to eating much more and maybe my mouth expects more action.

Im going to chalk it up to having to re-learn REAL hunger.

I had a big old reply to bougie size and stomach sizes but my wife called and I got erased so I will shorten it down. Follow this

Every persons stomachs a different size. Not only horizontally but vertically as well. Horizontally once you get sleeved we are all the same size "well within Millimeters". But its the vertical part that determines our initial capacity. Some people may hold 6 ounces some maybe 3. But thats why they developed the plication to correct those larger stomachs by making them into smaller ones.

Now can you see where I am coming from with eating capacities vary from person to person. I watched alot of videos and how capacities are determined. Gotta love youtube

Lissa I am just now experimenting with Protein Bars. They are excellent in my case because even though I have access to a kitchen 24/7 within 100' of me at all times I am just not able to let my hands drive the boat while I go cook something. And with bars I can take my time to eat them also I can keep them in the wheelhouse for availability. Never seen premire yet but I will look em up

Derel, I get the Premier bars at Sams and I understand that costco sells them as well. You probably hit one or the other regularly to keep the boat stocked! :)

Try Quest BARS!!! Yummy...

I've been able to eat a lot, right from the start. And my hunger never went away either, unfortunately. However, I have still been successful with my sleeve -- and so will you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
