phatdivabbw 86 Posted April 20, 2012 Is anyone else getting the filter inserted before their surgery? I'm a little afraid. I have a friend who had the filter inserted and they could not remove it after her surgery. I don't want that thing staying inside my body. My doctor said since my BMI is high they are doing this as a precaution for blood clots. Also it's extremely important for me to walk after the surgery to not only remove gas but to make sure I don't get any blood clots.
Jenny2012 12 Posted April 25, 2012 Yes I am having the filter placed as well, I asked as well if it could be removed and he said yes, but they generally don't remove it since its designed to remain inside the body, I figure its an added protection so I'm not gonna worry about it, good luck to you
BeautyVGSJourney 99 Posted April 27, 2012 a lot of times the filter is removed but there has been research that showed that it can be contra productive to remove it. But that is something to talk to your surgeon about, the pros and cons of leaving it vs removing it.
MG in SD 75 Posted April 28, 2012 I have never even heard of this! I am hoping this won't be a surprise dropped on me. I start my liquid diet Monday and have surgery in two weeks. When did you find out about this?
Jenny2012 12 Posted May 6, 2012 I had my surgery on Tues May 1 and the filter was placed, NO problems at all, no soreness or bleeding from site, was up and walking the same evening so don't worry, hope it helps you
