I have a question..i am 2 weeks out and when i ate...I have alot of mucous ...when does this stop so I don't swallow foods five times before they go down? THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE! I appreciate it!

I am not post op but I thought mucas is a symptom of sliming. I am new but I learned about it on this site. Sliming happens when you have eaten too much. For those post opers please let me know. Is this just something to expect?

There's so much difference between doctors' orders for post-op eating, isn't there! At 2 weeks, I was still on liquids, and not able to really swallow very much of those at one time. If you're having trouble and you're exactly following your doctor's orders for what and how much you should be eating, you might give the office a call and just check in. Sometimes, your sleeve is on a different track--mine was. Doesn't mean something's wrong, just means that you may not be able to eat as much or the types of things that your nutritionist/doctor says are okay. You may need to back off a bit and go back to liquids or soft foods or whatever the previous stage of eating was, and also cut the amount a little until you can eat comfortably. I found I was NEVER able to eat as much as my nutritionist suggested (my sleeve is super small and was SO PICKY!), but I managed to figure out an eating plan that worked. You will, too, through the same trial and error process. Start small--eat a couple of bites at a time and see how you feel. The key for me was eating until I wasn't hungry, not eating until I was full--there's a big difference.

Oh yeah..I have noticed huge differences in eating plans.

I am to eat real..soft foods ...the first week was full liquid...I am eating soft meats about 1-2oz 2 xs/day...and continuing to get the majority of Protein from supplements ..I am allowed soft vegetables as well...looking forward to a salad...I am losing as well...As far as sliming...I "slime" after the first swallow...so I figured it was a side effect of surgery...I just have a spit cup..the food goes down..up slime with no food...sorry..I know its gross...I hope it passes soon...surely it will...Thanks fir your help!

I'm with Meg. If you're hurting when you're eating, it might help to drop back a step for a few days.

I'm actually more worried about that hematoma. Please make sure someone is following up on that. Did they tell you it will heal or reabsorb on it's own? If not, are they planning to treat it? My birthmark is a hemangioma and has hematomas on it sometimes. The doc uses a laser to treat the hematomas, but, of course, mine are on my skin, not internal. A friend's daughter developed a hematoma on her liver many years ago and the hematoma kept growing until it crushed her internal organs.

Hey Lissa

The hematoma is a small one that occurred when I had a coughing fit...I ripped a stitch and the hematoma formed. Where it is locates it should reabsorb ..so that is good! I don't get sick per say when I eat...its like I reflux snot "sorry I know its gross" I have read from others that they experienced something similar and it passes by the month marker...My dietitian also notes it passes... I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this..but I have noticed other sleevers diet orders are way more conservative than mine...but I haven't had any intolerance other than milk...so I am not surehow why there is such a gap in the diet from clinic to clinic. Its such a specialized procedure you would think there would be.more continuity ..but that probably isn't so because not everyone tolerates foods at the same rate. Thanks for the help! I will definitely keep an eye on the hematoma. I am taking it easy and hopefully..my body will so its thing!

Yeah, you're sliming. It usually only happens now if I eat something "bad" or too fast or too much. If it's happening with every bite, I'd dial back to liquids for a week and try again. Soft solids in week 2 sounds crazy nuts! I wasn't allowed that until the beginning of week 4. I did a week of Clear Liquids, a week of full liquids, a week of purees, and a week of soft solids. Now, I can eat whatever, but I still have alot of things that don't work so well. The sliming is a symptom that your body is not ready for those foods yet.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
