3 fills and still not enough restriction

Recommended Posts

I have just had my 3rd fill and I am up to 2.6 cc's in my 4 cc band. I have a little restriction but not enough. I don't swell from fills which bums me out a little, but oh well. I still have to wait 2 weeks before I get another fill and it took my 7 weeks to get this one because my MD couldn't figure out how they wanted to do it, in the office or under floro. They also had to get the supplies into the office. Finaly, they did end up putting .5 cc in my band. I have gained a couple of pounds back, but it could be Fluid retention because my ankles and calves are swollen. I know that I have heard that a fill can spontaneously make you have restriction weeks after the fill, but if there is no initial swelling then why can't I feel it now? is there anyone else that doesn't swell that has gotten a fill and didn't feel a change right away? Did you feel restriction a week or 2 after your fill? Just wondering. I am really upset about the weight gain because I know how much I normally fluctuate and this is actual gain. :cry

Please give it time. It took 3 fills for me to find restriction. It also took a little over a week for it to kick in. I never notice any swelling immediately after a fill so you may not either. I would wait at least a week before scheduling another appointment as it may kick in when you least expect it.

I had my first fill a week ago, 1.5 in a 4 cc band and absolutely nothing. I am so disappointed. Then, the surgery costs you about 10,000.00 altogether and then 300.00 for a fill that you can't fill, it's aggravating. Plus, I live 10 hours round trip for fills. I go back next week for another, I sure hope Dr. Curry bumps this one up because I can gulp my drink, eat chicken, bread, toast, anything and am losing NO weight. blah

I definately won't bother the office until the alotted time because hopefully it will kick in. I guess I am just a touch dissapointed that I don't feel it yet, LOL, and I have gained a couple of pounds that I thought were gone for good.

I've had two fills and I have no restriction. I am disappointed because I could eat just about anything....I won't let myself but I certainly could eat a big meal at a restaurant. I am hoping that my next fill in September will do something. My surgeon is so conservative it drives me bats.

I am going for my 4th fill tomorrow cross your fingers for me, LOL. I really feel no different but I do notice that I can not eat a huge meal anymore, but I can still eat a fair amount. Sometimes I do it accidentally. I am thinking that I might actually try measuring my foor and see how 1/2 a cup does for me.

I've had two fills and no restriction and I didn't have any swelling after them. The only change is that I can't eat too fast or take too big a bites without chewing really well (found that out the hard way). I go in for third fill in September. I have 1.6 in a 4cc band.

I wish you and I both success with out next fills.

All I'll say about it is that you should be thankful that you don't have the large Vanguard band. My wife has had either 5 or 6 fills and she is up to 11 CCs. The NP told us the other day that she could go as high as 14.5cc. She's still doing liquids right now so we're not sure if she's getting any tighter or not. Time will tell.

Wow! I wonder if I will have to go over 4cc's to get restriction. I have had my 4th fill and am at 3.1 cc's and I think I am just about there. I am getting satisfied with less food. I am getting there.

It does take time. I've had 5 fills to take me to 2.5 and I've just gotten moderate restriction, still FAR from what others describe but working for me, my weight has begun dropping again.

Its very changeable though, more restricted some days, less on others, and I'm realising the importance of choosing foods that are less easy to eat, I honestly do way better with a sandwich at lunch because of the difficulty in eating it, I can get maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a salad sandwich in and it sits for HOURS. Eat a lean cuisine and yep, I'm full (and I could have eaten 3 at a sitting before banding) but it doesnt last that long.

I'm happy though and not planning on any more just yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
