Do you need to go on liquids the day of fill?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if I should eat solids before getting a fill... or how long my stomach should be empty before the fill. My first fill is Monday around 4pm, so I have all day to do liquids or solids... what did your doc tell you to do during the day leading up to your fill? I know that I need to do liquids for 3 days after the fill...

Thanks!

You really should get instructions from your doctor's office. Give them a call and I'm sure they'll tell you.

For me, it's not food or drink for 4 hrs prior to the fill.

My surgeon has no restrictions prior to getting the fill but recommends that I remain on liquids for the rest of the day, mushies the next and then move back to solids the following day.

I agree with another poster that you should ask your doctor about his recommendations.

My doctor says make it light, you don't want to be to full before your fill, then for 24 hours liquids, then 24 hours mushies, then 24 hours soft foods and then your on your own.

Mine did not have any restrictions for before the fill, just afterwards. Liquids for 24 hours afterwards, then mushies for two more days.

I had no restrictions the day of the fill. For the rest of the fill day and the next day it's liquids and then a day of soft foods and then back to solids.

You see each Dr. is different. Give them a call, because it's better to be safe than sorry. I only need to be on clears the 1st 24 hours, then mushies for 24hours, then back to norm.

Good luck!!!

Each Dr. is different - mine nothing for 2 hours before your fill - then soft food for the rest of the fill day - then back to normal. 3 fills for me now - no problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
