Recommended Posts

I Work a full time and part time job. Im taking Two weeks off from both. The first job i sit all day. The 2nd job is at a grocery store where im on my feet at a register a few hrs at a time. I cant drink anything while at the register. Is this going to be a problem? Looking for comparisons/advice. Thank you!!

I wonder if you should repost in post-op section as well to see what advice the pros can give you. My doctor said I really didn't have any restrictions as far as lifting, mobility, work, etc however he said I may be lacking energy and stamina at first and may want to take time off for that reason. He's going to leave it up to me. Good luck. :)

The only issue I can see is not getting in your liquids. I had to sip all day long. I had about five days after surgery to recuperate (four in hospital, one flying back home) before tending to my toddler twins while my husband was traveling. It's not the same as working two jobs but I was on my feet, up and down stairs and generally moving for most of the day within one week of surgery. Two weeks out you're going to feel A LOT better, especially if you don't allow yourself to get dehydrated after surgery. I think you'll be tired from working so hard and adjusting to such low calories but if you work on getting liquids in you should do fine.

I am wondering the same thing. I am an RN and work Mother/Baby. I have to get C-section patients in and out of bed and help moms get to the bathroom for the first time post-epidural. That takes a lot of muscles especially in my abdomen. Also, a 12 hour shift is a long time to work. Some days are great and I keep my water bottle next to me and refill it several times. Other days are hard and I never take a sip or get a bite to eat. And once you are back to work you are back to work. There is no giving someone an easy assignment. I am really hoping for 4 weeks. I need to talk to my surgeon about this.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
