The other day I had to go on antibiotics for an issue unrelated to my sleeve (I am 3 weeks post op). I informed the doctor at urgent care that I was post op sleeve and she still prescribed me an antibiotic. Well they are really doing a number on my stomach and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

The antibiotic is bactrim and they are pretty large pills that I cut in half. Also the pharmacist showed me how easily they dissolved by dropping one in a glass of Water so I assumed they would be safe to take. Also, my PCP said it will be OK for me to take bactrim and that it shouldn't hurt my sleeve. It got so bad that yesterday it made me throw up the hard boiled egg I ate for Breakfast. The rest of the day I had a pretty bad upset stomach and I stayed on liquids for the rest of the day. I woke up today and have had no problems other than a minor upset stomach but I am still just doing liquids.

Sorry if this is long winded but I am still in that paranoid stage where I think everything is going to rip my sleeve to shreds. By the way...hope the paranoid stage ends soon I have never really been too paranoid about anything in my life so this is a new sensation for me.

Thanks for listening,

BubbaChubbs

I had an ear infection at two weeks out and was on liquid bactrim for ten days. I was nauseous the entire time though I never threw up. I think I would crush the pill or disolve it- did you ask your surgeon about it? I think I would have done better on a pill, the taste and smell about killed me! Eat something easy on your stomach before taking it- maybe some pudding or cream of wheat. I can see where a hard boiled egg would be hard to keep down. Also, my Dr had me double up on my PPI- a morning dose and an evening dose. Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
