I have been of soft foods since I was 8 days post op. I was told that I could not have bread until I am at 5 months post op.

Just curious if this includes pancakes and waffles?

I noticed some high Protein (and in some case sugar free) pancake & waffle mixes and wanted to try something different. I plan on using a reduced fat butter or margarine and honey instead of Syrup to top it.

Thoughts? Comments?

I was told no bread unless it is toasted...so I think waffles would fall under the toasted category.

I use bobs Red Mill low carb mix for waffles and they are very good. Some peoples stomachs do not tolerate breadstuff very well. I don't have that problem. Keep in mind honey is very high in calories and may give you a sugar rush early on. I use sugar free Syrup or fruit only jam.

1/4 cup of Bobs Red Mill has 100 cals

14 gms of Protein and 11 gms of carbs.

When you add egg and milk, it ups the Protein even more.

Not bad really for the sleeve.

I use 1/2 cup mix, with egg and milk and bakeing powder and perhaps some blueberries, it make two large round waffles. I eat one (or half of one early on) and eat the rest on another day.

I make pancakes on occasion. I use a mix of whole wheat flour and oats, and usually add frozen blueberries, as well. Rather than Syrup, I like to top them with Greek yogurt. I consider it a pretty decent menu option.

@feedyoureye - I did some checking on sugar free syrups that I think would be a better option than honey.

The type of mix I will probably try is Chef Jay's High Protein pancake Mix. Nutritional info on it looked pretty promising. I don't plan on ever eating regular pancakes or waffles again. I haven't mourned the loss of too many foods but I got a waffle maker last year for my birthday for a reason.

@aviva - do a google search for Chef Jay's High Protein pancake and you will find the places you can order it from. The cheapest I found it for was 14.99 for a 2.5 pound bag at advantagesupplements dot com.

As far as bariatric chewables and other Vitamins I bought mine from the pharmacy located in the hospital where I had my surgery.

You can make them high Protein when you add whey isolate and things like ricotta to the batter - made with whole grain flour :)

Five months is a little strict. I have been eating all foods since I went on solids in week 7. It all depends what you can tolerate and what your surgeon says.

Um yeah I noticed that my doctor's office is conservative. I was told no bread, Pasta, rice, and nuts until about 5 months out.

That would bother me, but for the nuts. I don't do rice at all. I eat quinoa in its place. The Pasta I eat is a mix of quinoa and corn. It's very high Protein. I never thought I'd get to eat mac & cheese again, but with that stuff I can.

In its white flour form, those things for the exception of the nuts are BAD new for us in more ways than one. Some people cannot tolerate them, they can gum up the works and are pretty nutritionally devoid - especially white rice.

I also use almond flour BTW.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
