Anyone use this? I'm 9 days post and will try anything not to lose my hair. Or at least lessen the loss. My cousin has been using it, says it's helped.

I am a hairy she woman, not really but pretty hairy for a chick, so I am not going anywhere near Biotin. It doesn't just target the hair on your head it targets ALL hair.

I bought some Biotin and started taking it, in case it helps. I don't have surgery until 5/21. I have heard that Hair loss does not happen until a few months out....close to 6 months I think and then after a few months it starts growing back thick again. I also heard that keeping up your amount of Protein is important to reduce the amount of hair loss. I'm not sure if it is avoidable but I will try to keep up my protein and take the biotin. The Biotin pill is very tiny, but not chewable so we will see how it works after surgery....I think I have to wait for my 2 week checkup to get cleared to start my Vitamins back up and hopefully I can take that one along with everything else.

I started using Biotin a couple weeks ago in hopes of preventing Hair loss. My surgery is next week but I plan on continuing it after surgery as well. I did find it in chewable form on line.

Hello, I am only 3 months post op and have been using Biotin for nearly a year and have not lost any hair as of yet. I am now converting to black currant suggestedby Dr Oz...check this older forum out.

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28397-best-biotin/page__p__272334__hl__+black%20+currant__fromsearch__1#entry272334.

Hope that works... If it doesn't, just put balck currant in the search button and few articles come up. Lots of interesting conversations. My sister is 8 months out and has not had any significant Hair loss and has never used anything.

I take Biotin. It doesn't help with not losing hair but it seems to help me with regrowth. I started losing my hair between 2 and 3 months. I lost A LOT of hair, it would come out in clumps. Good thing I had a lot of it to start with but it still got very thin. I stopped losing between 7 and 8 months. I have a lot of regrowth going on now.

I was also scared about the Hair loss but I knew it would probably happen and I would do it over again for all of the positives that come out of having the surgery! My hair was very important to me when I was heavy but once I started losing weight it suddenly wasn't as important to me anymore, too many other things to be excited about and I didn't have to hide behind my hair anymore!

I started taking Biotin about 1 1/2 months along with a good Multivitamin. I have my surgery on May 7th and will continue with the biotin. I have noticed an increase in Hair growth and it feels a little thicker. I am trying to prevent Hair loss so have done some research. You have to take in 70-90 grams of Protein a day, 50mg of zinc, and make sure you get enough Iron in order to prevent extreme hair loss. Taking the biotin is a bonus.

My nutritionist said that Biotin won't do too much to prevent (though it can stimulate re-growth). To lessen the loss she recommended primarily making sure that I was getting enough Protein and, secondarily, taking zinc. My surgeon seconded the zinc thing and recommended 50 mg every three days. I'm about 2 weeks from surgery and have been prepping to do everything I can to get as much protein as possible. Isopure (both the clear liquid drinks and the whey isolate) has become my item of choice since it's positively PACKED with protein and you can get a zero carb version.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
