Hi all,

I am 5 weeks post op and would really love to have some veggies again. I know that broccoli and lettuce are the hardest on our sleeves. But what about everything else? Anyone out there try veggies in the early stages? And if so, which veggies agreed/disagreed with your sleeve?

Early on, I ate frozen mixed veggies and frozen green Beans. Tomatoes bothered me at first so I avoided most veggie Soups because they are tomato-based. I did enjoy Anderson's Split Pea Soup. Campbells Split Pea soup did not sit well on my sleeve. I also liked zuchinni. It's easy to add a few thin slices to whatever Protein you are cooking.

By around 5 weeks, I also liked the 98% fat free turkey chili and could eat tomato-based veggie Soups.< /p>

Frozen veggies are really convenient if you are just cooking for yourself because you can take out just 1/8 cup or whatever you can tolerate.

I love veggies when they are in season, so even in the smallest amounts -- I'm going for it! I love tomatoes so 2-3x per week I'll have a 1-2 slices of fresh Tomato with some salt, pepper, basil sprinkled on top. On occasion, I'll chop up 1/4 of a Roma and mix it with some fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar. I call it my Lazy Caprese. Fresh herbs are really good for detoxing the liver, which every weight loss patient needs. Parsley, cilantro, mint - YES, YES, YES!

I love asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, edamame (good source of protein), cooked spinach or kale, mushrooms, green Beans, and okra. I've enjoyed and been able to tolerate celery, carrots, beets, and brussel sprouts but only rarely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
