Recommended Posts

Anyone had the surgery on April 11th? How are you guys doing? I'm still experiencing gas pain but not as bad as bad as before...its been hard for me to get my Protein in too. Anyone else having the same problem?

Yes I am having the same problem. The Protein Shakes are gagging me but I keep on trying. My overall soreness in abdomen is almost gone. I feel pretty good other than still a little weak.

I feel the same way...I'm also experiencing not wanting to eat...I feel like I'm forcing myself because I know I need to get the Protein in...like yesterday had 1/4 cup of mashed with 2oz of purreed chicken...I only ate half...is that even normal?

I had mine done on the 12th. I have just started being able to get in liquids like I should. Protein is very hard for me as it's hard for me to get any real food in me still. I did find a smoothine w/o Protein powder that I really like and it has around 18 grams of protien in it...you have to sip it all day as it's 16oz though. It's as follows.

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 cup plain greek yogart

1 cup vanilla Silk (soy milk)

4-5 ice cubes

2 packets of splenda...you can do this to your tastes.

I found this is soooo good and I can't taste the Protein in it like I could when I used I my Protein Powder.

As for the gas pains, I still get some, but I found that if I walk after I drink or eat, it gets much better. The past few days it seems like all I did was walk. LOL

Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

The amount you ate is VERY normal. I can barely get 2 oz in of any "real food" The nurse I spoke with said this was VERY normal.

I was on the 11th too! I have been very lucky - really no pain and not having too much trouble getting in fluids and Protein. I am still on liquids, but am able to get all my Protein in two shakes (Premier Protein, 30g protein each).

Thanks for the smoothie recipe - sounds good.

Focus on getting your liquids in, you don't want to end up dehydrated. The protein will come when your sleeve is ready - you are still early out and your sleeve still may be swollen.

Good Luck - it will get easier. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
