lisalalani 81 Posted April 18, 2012 Ugh! I am 3 weeks post op and on mushies. I thought i was hungry so I made some egg salad. I had 3 bites. I totally feel sick to my stomach like I am going to throw up! Apparently I am FULL! I thought I was hungry! I don't know if I am going to ever figure out what the difference between hungry and full are. This has happened once before. I totally want to throw up. UGhhh! madambones 20 Posted April 18, 2012 How big were your bites? It helps me if I remember to take teeny pea sized bites. Someone here recently said that they actually measure out a 1/3 cup portion of food for each meal and once that's gone, it's time to stop eating. I've started doing that too, except I use just a 1/4 cup for meals. Also remember not to drink within 30 min of eating. Of course, your new tummy may just hate egg salad! Dooter 1,457 Posted April 18, 2012 Hehe...I remember doing that. I know exactly how you feel! It took me forever to figure out what all the different sensations were! If I even drank my Protein Shake too fast, I got that "I wanna hurl" feeling for about 20 minutes. I'd walk around until I felt better. Anything with fat content must be eaten S L O O O O W L Y. Believe me- you'll get past this phase and on to new ones!
bratvp63 118 Posted April 18, 2012 OMG I has the same thing happen today with egg salad, luckily the feeling finally passed but I thought for sure that I was going to be sick.
lisalalani 81 Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks everyone! I just don't get how the signals can be so confusing.
clk 3,519 Posted April 19, 2012 Eat slow! One or two small, teeny bites. Rest. Try again in a few minutes if you have room. Signs of fullness for me are a runny nose or hiccups. If I pass that up, I get uncomfortable and experience either the foamies or have to go yuck up those last bites I shouldn't have eaten! It's normal...you're new to this and will eventually learn your body's signals. ~Cheri
clk 3,519 Posted April 19, 2012 Oh, and eggs are tough on a lot of people! If you have this issue again with eggs even eating slowly, put them off for another week or so and try a different food. Cottage cheese is an easy one and is packed with Protein. A lot of folks like greek yogurt, too. ~Cheri
K33 87 Posted April 21, 2012 Altho I am pre-op, I have practiced mindful eating and as a result discovered *my* clue that I am full is that I take a deep breath or exhale a sigh of relief during my meal.
mindylouwho1203 0 Posted April 25, 2012 im 3 months to the day out from surgery what helped me with Portion Control was i used ice cube trays i ice cube is about a tablespoon. and if your using like egg salad or tuna puree it till theres absolutely no lumps at least it helps me..there are things that may bother me today but if i try it again next week doesnt. sometimes it could be howw your cooking it. if your eggs are too dry. or if your frying them in alot of greese or too much seasons or the type of seasons. not thinking i used pepper on eggs and it tore up my stomach. Cherrybomb 54 Posted April 25, 2012 I can so relate to this! At 3 weeks out today, I haven't felt hunger as I knew it before. I also haven't felt full in the same way. It's so strange to get used to. When I eat too much or too fast, I feel it as kind of a pain in my stomach rather than that old full feeling. Just TODAY I have started to realize I may have an empty stomach feeling too. It feels similar to the "full" feeling but on a much smaller scale. Of course, I could be interpreting it all wrong. I'm just generally confused about what's going on now.
