Recommended Posts

I Didnt track cals at your stage since its either liquids or full liquids & the focus is getting anything you can down & keeping hydrated. Now I'm almost 13 wks out & I eat anywhere from 600-900 cals a day depending on what I eat. I aim for 60+ grams of Protein per day, but there are still days that I don't reach it. I wouldn't worry about calories at your point. Trust me.....you are getting very few....probably under 300 per day.

I am 3.5 weeks post op and have been on soft food for the last two weeks. I realized within the first couple of days that I could tolerate certain foods really well so I just ate. I decided to do a food journal and in one day I consumed 1300 calories. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get that many calories in (deviled eggs...easy to tolerate but loaded with fat/calories). I thought due to the small amount that I was eating that I was at 600-800. The moral of the story is that the food journal really helped. Now I pay more attention to what I eat even on days that I don't journal. Best of luck!

Yes... I just started keeping track myself and are still on soft foods. I average between 600-850 calories a day. I am worried I am taking in to many calories!

I still keep a food journal just so I don't get off track and I'm below my goal weight. It is so easy to cheat one day and then again the next and so on. food journals are a reminder to me that watching what you eat is a life long step in keeping off the weight. (It also helps me in exercise and training to know what works and what doesn't).

To your question, I agree that fluids and Protein are the only things you have to worry about. Research the highest Protein per calories/ounce items and it will help (seafood items like scallops and shrimp were easiest for me at your point because they were relatively soft).

Ooops I mean I am 1.5 months out!!!! Sorry!

Lol! Well that definitely changes my reply! Join myfitnesspal.com & request some friends from here. You can then view different people's food diaries to get some menu ideas, caloric intake info, etc. At 1.5 mos out I was eating between 400-600, though most days I was under 500. If you join MFP feel free to send me a request - my user name on there is the same as on here!

at....where am I....nine weeks? I think so... Uhhh, I try to stay at 800. If I go below that, I get homicidally hungry, and much above that, I don't lose any weight. My threshold seems to be between 800 and 1000, but like I said, I try to stay near 800. And most of that is solid Proteins.< /p>

I am at 8 months and eat 1200-1600 cals a day and I have since 2.5 months. At 1.5 months I was lucky to get 750 due to my swelling.

I'm 6 weeks out and target 900-1100 calories or (3) 300 calorie meals and perhaps a snack. My energy level is good with this amount of calories as long as I maintain 60 grams of daily Protein. If I don't hit the 60 grams I feel it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
