Hey everyone : )

I went to see my surgeon today for my final visit before my surgery on May3. He had told me once before that if he gets in there and there is a lot of scar tissue around my band that he may have to take out the band and wait several months for my stomach to heal before moving on to the sleeve. He said he did not run into that situation very often but it does happen. He said he was not going to put my health at risk if he felt that it would be better on me to wait. I just love my surgeon. I have had my realize band for almost 4 years.

Has anyone else run into this problem where they had to wait due to scar tissue?

I would rather for him to wait if it is better on me and my health. He said the chance is very small that he would have to wait. I am kinda sad because I will not know if he was able to do the sleeve until I wake up.

Did anyone else have the same problem.

I'm in the same position as you. My surgeon will open me up to remove the band, and if there is too much scar tissue he will sew me up and wait to do the sleeve three months later. If everything looks good, he will sleeve me in the same procedure.

I'm self-pay so I am hoping that he can do the two in one procedure (I will have to pay nearly double to have it in two procedures), but what's most important is that I have a good result without complications. Complications will not be covered by my insurance. So, I'm happy that my surgeon will do what is best and safest for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
